Hello friends!

Imagine - to take off on the road, but with clear coordinates from the GPS, so that could the entire Instagram crowd follow you? I promise you, the spectacle will be such that “the client will forget about everything”, but it is better to take bread, water and an accommodating interlocutor with you.

The big Sevastopol trail, the route map of which runs from Sevastopol to Balakalva (1st part), capturing the most amazing corners, natural, historical and ancient sights, is a real find for hiking fans!

Let's get on the road soon!

In 2015, the government of Sevastopol approved one of the most luxurious projects - a tourist trail. The 130 km long route starts at and ends in Lyubimovka.

And the path, like in a fairy tale, lies through forests and mountains, passes and gorges, runs along the Black Sea coast, forcing you to walk along wide roads and winding along narrow paths, revealing amazing pictures to your eyes and showing historical sights.

Great Sevastopol trail - easy walking route suitable for beginner trekkers. Moreover, the whole path is divided into smaller sections, and you can choose the one that attracts you. There are also tourist camps along the way.

Now the Great Sevastopol Trail is gradually being improved for the safety and comfort of travelers - the route is marked, information poles are being installed, it is planned installation of suspension bridges across rivers and equipping difficult rocky areas with metal structures for faster and easier overcoming.

Choose your route

The trail runs along a steep ledge, partially capturing the territory of the reserve "Cape Aya". The cape itself, which is the highest on the Black Sea, you will definitely see.

On this stretch of the path you will meet the ruins of medieval, but small castles, as well as elements of fortifications on the site of the main and advanced line of defense of Sevastopol in 41-42.

You will also go out to the viewing platforms. As well as such sights as the "Barrel of Death", "South Balaklava Fort", "Figs", Cape Aya itself, Batiliman and access to the Laspinsky Pass.

The path is easy - along trails and dirt roads. Mountain peaks do not allow the wind to roam.

Depending on what time of the year you will hike, you can enjoy the unique flora and fauna of this place - wild orchids and other plants bloom here in spring, turning the mountain steppes into a bright carpet of fragrant herbs.

And in the reserve, as expected, there are wild representatives of the animal world - wild boars, foxes, roe deer, hares, weasels, red deer, squirrels. You can also stumble upon the Crimean gecko and leopard snake.

With slow movement, this section takes time up to 6-8 hours.

From the Laspi Pass to the Baydar Gates

This section is even easier. It passes almost through the open area of one of the yailas, which is not at the highest altitude - up to 660 m above sea level.

You will have views from above of the Tesseli sanatorium, Cape Sarych and Laspi Bay , and above Foros on the Red Rock rises an amazing beauty.

On this section of the path, you can climb Ilyas-Kaya observation deck , and then look into - one of the most mysterious corners of the Crimea, a place of power and a center of cosmic energy (so they say).

In this area, meadow belts are replaced by oak and coniferous forests with relict plants.

Depending on the pace you spend on the hike 3 to 5 hours.

From the Baydar Gates to the tourist camp "Uzundzha"

The longest and most beautiful section, which runs along the slopes and the top of the Ai-Petrinsky Yayla. You will rise to a height of up to 900 m above sea level and enjoy amazing landscapes.

The path will have to be kept through the Karadag forest with its lakes, overcome Devil's Staircase Pass , and walk "Roman roads" . Optionally, you can visit the stalactite equipped for excursions.

Ai-Petri Yayla is rich in plant diversity. Trees, shrubs, flowers - more than 600 species!

Of the sights you will meet - the ruins of an old radio laboratory and medieval fortifications, a monument to partisans.

The climate here is much fresher, the weather is capricious. At night, the temperature even in summer can drop to 0 degrees.

If you are not configured for a forced march, then the travel time may take until 10 o'clock.

From t / s "Uzundzha" to the village. advanced

The trekking route passes through the Baydarskaya Dolina nature reserve with the Chernorechensky reservoir in the center.

Here you will find mountain ranges, picturesque gorges, descents and ascents, forest paths and refreshing river flows.

In the spring and autumn season, you can watch a wonderful. The vegetation is dominated by Red Data Book juniper forests.

The peculiarity of the Baidar Valley is not only in its unique nature and beauty, but also in the accumulation of Taurus boxes or Crimean dolmens - stone tombs of the ancient Taurus people. Many of the tombs were plundered by black archaeologists or destroyed during the war.

Tourists usually take this route 7-8 hours with stops and sightseeing.

From Peredovoe to t / s "Mountainous"

Why not walk through the mountain beech forest? The route, although it involves climbing, is not difficult - the road will climb smoothly, and branches of trees will cover you from wind or heat.

The path will pass along the spurs of the Main Ridge. Here you will meet mountain rivers and waterfalls, cold springs and baths.

The average journey takes about 4-5 hours.

From t/s "Mountainous" to t/s 2nd cordon"

A very interesting segment of the Great Sevastopol trail. On its territory there are two ancient cave monasteries - Shuldan And . More about them.

Landscapes around will be changeable - from steep rocky slopes to spacious valleys. The vegetation here is not so lush, mainly drought-resistant plants are present. But you will be able to see the entire southwestern Crimea at once and

This cave region is a haven for lizards, of which there are a lot. Also here you can meet the largest Crimean snake - yellow-bellied snake up to 2 meters long.

With a brisk step, the road will take from 3 hours, and if you are not in a hurry and diligently take pictures, then 6-7 hours.

From the 2nd cordon to the Mountain Key

A completely walking route without difficult sections passes through an oak-hornbeam forest. In spring, wild peonies, fragrant lilies of the valley, amazing orchids bloom here. In summer, you can come across fruit and berry trees - dogwood, barberry, wild pear and cherry.

Defensive battles for Sevastopol took place on this territory, so here you can stumble upon various objects from the time of the war, as well as meet the structure - bunker No. 11.

Taurus left ancient marks here. Dolmens already known to us, or rather their remains, are located in the area of the 2nd cordon. By the way, from this point you can go to explore the cave cities - and

And do not forget to collect cool and clean water from the Mountain Key.

You can pass this part of the Great Sevastopol Trail for 5 hours.

From the Mountain Key to Lyubimovka

Considered the easiest route. It originates in the Nakhimovsky district of Sevastopol, stretches along the beaches, goes into the valley of the Belbek River, revealing steppe expanses and orchards.

Of the sights - the fortification of the 30th coastal battery, monuments to soldiers, obelisks, ruins of ancient structures, observation platforms.

Travel time - 5 o'clock at a steady pace.

A little more about the Great Sevastopol Trail

In addition to the main trail, auxiliary routes wind around, on which you can turn, find out what is there, admire and return to the desired direction.

The creators of this project wanted to show everyone that Sevastopol is not only a military base.

In this part of our peninsula there is magnificent nature - these are the Crimean steppes, and mountain ranges, and forest reservoirs, and hidden springs with full-flowing rivers and waterfalls.

The route is absolutely free. , there are no tour operators and organized excursions. Gradually, it will be all equipped with navigation and equipped for greater safety and comfort. But even now everything is very clear on the developed map.

1st section of the trail in great demand

It is worth knowing that this is the most popular section of the Sevastopol trail, from which it all began. It is specific, not complicated and very interesting. Many locals walked along some of its sections without a trail, but now putting them together is just a song.

It is very convenient to pass the 1st section in the opposite direction if you depend on public transport.

You need to leave early in the direction of Yalta and dismount at the Laspinsky Pass stop. And from there, walk the trail all the way to Balaklava, where you can either swim, or swim in a boat, or have dinner at a fish restaurant.

What the trekkers themselves and those who hit the trail for the first time say

  1. The biggest plus of this hike is the amazing beauty and diversity of the Crimean landscapes. Travelers from the Great Trail return with a lot of unique photos!
  2. The second significant plus is that hiking along this route is possible at any time of the year. Of course, if you approach this issue wisely and follow the weather forecast.
  3. And the third plus is that there are no garbage dumps on the trail yet, it is very clean around. The exception is the places of tourist camps, for example, near Figs. According to tourists, the coast there is simply filthy, despite paid services.

In some places, the path becomes very narrow, nestles against the slopes, and on the other side there is a cliff and sharp stones.

Impressive tourists remember such stretches of the path very emotionally, although in fact the trail is quite stable and there is nothing to be afraid of.

Of the minuses- not all difficult places are still equipped with cables, railings and bridges. But, for example, in 2008, on one of these sections at the stage of the Balaklava-Laspi crossing, a nice bridge appeared, which appears in many photos. A resident of Sevastopol built it at his own expense.

You should not linger on this bridge - a pebble on the head can fly from above, it is because of this that the bridge has already been reconstructed a couple of times.

Good to know

Carefully! In the spring-summer period, contact with the burning bush (ash tree) should be avoided - a tall herbaceous plant with leaves similar in shape to ash leaves and small inflorescences of white, pink, reddish hue.

After touching, a burning sensation appears, blisters appear that leave scars, and a temperature increase is possible.

From March to October, ticks are a danger. But wild animals, the same wild boars, try not to catch the eye of tourists.

In summer, there is a risk of getting heat or sunstroke, elevation changes and stress in the heat are not easily tolerated by everyone.

In the winter-autumn period, you should not be heroic and overestimate your physical capabilities, hypothermia is fraught with further complications.

If all summed up together, it is better to stay at home. But we are not like that

For extreme lovers

A climbing route via ferrata runs along the lower belt of the southern wall of Mount Delikli-Burun.

The creation of this route took place in 2018. And since that time, it was planned to open two more new roads.

We wrote more about the via ferrata on the BST.

Just in case!

There are many scenic hiking trails in Crimea. Some trails run along the slopes of ancient volcanoes, others are at the very edge of the sea, and still others lead to the peaks of the peninsula. The Crimean mountains are densely dotted with paths, but among all the variety there are special routes - such roads that combine hundreds of sights and wonders of nature, such emotions for which you can come from the other side of the world. And if in Turkey the most famous hiking route is the Lycian trail, and in Europe - Santiago de Compostela, then in the Crimea - the Great Sevastopol trail.

The Great Sevastopol Trail was founded in 2015. And to be more precise, it existed before, and in the 15th year they simply combined many routes into one, after which a tourist attraction 130 km long appeared. The trail starts in Balaklava and ends in Lyubimovka. The path lies through forests and mountains, passes and gorges, runs along the Black Sea coast, forcing you to walk along wide roads and winding along narrow paths, revealing amazing pictures and showing historical monuments.

The total length of the route is more than 100 kilometers, which cannot be covered in one day. To walk along the trail, you can choose one of its sections or take a tent with you. In total, the Great Sevastopol Trail is divided into eight segments:

The route is quite easy, but in summer you need to take plenty of water with you, as there is only one spring along the way. And besides this, it is important to know that the trail passes through the reserve, so do not be surprised to meet deer, roe deer or wild boars.

From the Laspi Pass to the Baydar Gates

This section is considered easier than the route described above. It runs almost through open areas at an altitude of up to 660 m above sea level.

From above, dizzying views of Foros open up, and along the way you can admire the most beautiful, located on the cliff of the Red Rock. In addition, the trail goes to the observation deck, and then to one of the most mysterious places on the peninsula.

From the Baydar Gates to the tourist camp "Uzundzha"

This is the longest and most beautiful section, which runs along the slopes and the top of the Ai-Petri Yayla at an altitude of up to 900 m above sea level. The path passes through the Karadag forest with its lakes, the ancient mountain, and also goes to one of the most beautiful caves of Taurida - to.

The travel time of the route is up to 10 hours.

From t / s "Uzundzha" to the village. advanced

The route time is up to 5 hours.

From t/s "Mountainous" to t/s 2nd cordon"

This section of the Great Sevastopol Trail passes through two ancient cave monasteries: Shuldan and Chelter-Marmara. Picturesque scenes from rocky slopes to spacious plains await on the way. The route time is up to 7 hours.

From the 2nd cordon to the Mountain Key

This route is not distinguished by difficult sections and passes through an oak-hornbeam forest. In spring, wild peonies, fragrant lilies of the valley, amazing orchids bloom here, and in summer you can come across fruit and berry trees - dogwood, barberry, wild pear and cherry.

From the Mountain Key to Lyubimovka

This route is considered the easiest section of the Great Sevastopol Trail. A little more about the Great Sevastopol Trail

In addition, to walk along the main part of the Great Sevastopol Trail, you can explore its auxiliary routes and return to the desired direction. The entire trail is completely free to visit, and many of the dangerous sections are equipped with auxiliary ropes and steps. Good luck!

Write your comments with your impressions of the passage of the trail!

Sevastopol and Crimea as a whole is an amazing place where nature and the city are closely connected. Even if you are not a fan of big hikes, then you should not refuse short one-day trips to the mountains or to the sea. Such a pastime is suitable for any level of physical fitness and gives new impressions, allowing you to listen to silence, the sound of the wind and the singing of birds.

It is not necessary to have a car for a one-day hike across the Crimea from Sevastopol. In some cases, the car will interfere, as you will be tied to the place where you left your “horse”. In this case, you will have to go the same way both to the destination and back.

Another plus of traveling for one day: no need to carry a heavy backpack with a tent, sleeping bag, food and other real travel items.

In this publication, I have collected those places and routes of Crimea that I love myself and which are not too far from Sevastopol. It is more convenient to get to some of them by your own vehicle, but if a couple of extra kilometers on foot does not scare you, then you can safely master it. The second option can open something that the autotraveller will not see on his way.

Solar path in Balaklava

Are you a fan of looking at beautiful views in photographs, have a bad attitude towards hiking, but suddenly you feel a craving to take a stunning picture yourself and walk not only on asphalt? Then a walk along the Sunny Path from Balaklava to Figs is just for you. The trail is easy to find, there are no difficult ascents and descents, the surrounding beauty is breathtaking. Minus - back you have to go the same way. During the tourist season, you can return by skiff, but personally I do not advise doing this way in the heat, so as not to suffer from sun or heat stroke.

How to get there: first to the central square of Balaklava by bus number 94 from the center of Sevastopol or number 9 from the 5th kilometer. Then you need to walk along the embankment, go up to the Cembalo fortress and go along the road past a small private house following the signs "Big Sevastopol Trail".

Cave city of Chufut-kale

Another easy trip is a visit to the cave city of Chufut-Kale in Bakhchisarai. By the way, it is worth starting acquaintance with these Crimean sights with it, since it has been preserved better than its counterparts and looks very impressive from the outside. In addition, you can turn to a guide for help: then the walk will be full of not only beautiful views, but also interesting information about the place and its inhabitants.

On the way to Chufut-kale, you can make a stop at the Assumption Monastery. The temple is located in a cave, which in itself is quite curious. For women and girls there are special skirts and scarves.

The ascent to Chufut-kale is not difficult, it takes about 30-40 minutes. Various souvenirs are sold on the trail during the tourist season.

This cave city of Crimea is the most visited by tourists because of its convenient location and better preservation. But even on its territory you can find secluded paths from which beautiful views open and where tourists almost never go.

How to get there: by bus to Bakhchisaray from the bus station of Sevastopol. From the Bakhchisaray bus station to the final stop on the minibus going to the Old Town. Next to the stop is the first ticket office, from it on the left road up past the Assumption Monastery. Ticket price - 200 rubles, with a tour - 300 rubles. Weekends in winter are Tuesday and Wednesday.

Mangup-kale

If you like independent travel, then you can order, in which I will select the most interesting places in Crimea for you.

Route thread

Balaklava - Golden Beach - Figs - Rhino - Kazan-Dere - along the Great Sevastopol trail back to Balaklava

Brief information about the route:

  • Route length - 20-22 km
  • Climb: about 500 meters in total (the hike takes place over rough terrain)
  • Difficulty - difficult, one section was swimming, the key section is the horn of the Rhinoceros, free climbing (climbing is not difficult)

General information.

I want to bring to your attention a very interesting route that passes through the picturesque places of Cape Aya, Balaklava. A feature of this route is that during its passage you need to swim by the sea, and in some places jump over boulders and climb rocks.

Throughout the route, you will have stunning views of the sea and steep cliffs, you will breathe juniper aromas ... And say: “Sancho, thank you for writing this report” 🙂

For those who want to challenge the Rhino, I will try to give some advice, in fact, this report was written for this purpose.

In short, I will say that you can get to the Rhino by starting either from Laspi, or from Goncharny, or from Balaklava. I started from Balaklava and returned there.

In this article I will not dwell on other ways of climbing the Rhinoceros route. There will be a separate article soon.

1) In one place you need to swim the site by swimming, by sea. I made a raft of three 6-liter eggplants and wrapped them with electrical tape (but it's much better to buy tape for this purpose). Eggplants are also better to take with you, theoretically you can find them on Figs ... but you may not find them 🙂

The raft is needed in order to transport the backpack. In theory, you can do without a raft, take only the most necessary things with you, but I wanted to shoot all the stages of the route, so I took a camera, a camera, and a phone ... in short, a lot of things ... I also wanted to drink tea on the Rhino, so I decided take a backpack, make a raft, etc.

Once, I already swam across that section without a raft, but when I got out on the other side barefoot and in just shorts, I realized my mistake and realized how gentle a person is, absolutely not adapted to survival in the wild.

The sun burned mercilessly, there was nowhere to hide from it ... The water was nearby, but it was salty, you can’t drink it, and the skin tightens from the salt. There were a lot of thorns underfoot... and a lot of hogweed...

Therefore, that time I decided to go back, and next time try again using a raft.

2) It is better to pass the section from the Icicle (the first rock behind the Fig) to the Rhinoceros in the morning, when there is still no strong heat. To do this, you need to start as early as possible. I started late, only at 9:30 I left Balaklava and got to this section in the very sun.

3) Water. Water needs to be saved and taken at the rate of 2 liters per person (no less). In order not to waste time and not to go to the spring on Fig, I advise you to draw water either at home or from a spring at the very beginning of the Great Sevastopol Trail, near the Cembalo fortress.

4) Shoes. Shoes should be comfortable and with non-slip soles. I walked most of the route in sandals, it’s not hot in them and it’s so comfortable for me ... But the section from Icicle to Rhino passed in sneakers, because I have to jump and climb a lot.

Report

Section Balaklava - Fig

So, I arrived in Balaklava at 9:30, which is very late. I recommend leaving much earlier. I won't go into detail about the beginning of the route here. Our goal is to reach Figs, who does not know where Figs is and how to get there, here is an article.

It takes about 1.5 - 2 hours to go to Figs, knowing the way. Great views, great trail. Here I will give advice: it is better to go to the Figs through the Golden Beach - this way it turns out much faster. To do this, after you pass the Silver Beach, turn off the main path.

It turns out that as soon as you see the Golden Beach, you need to head for it. The main road goes to the left, and we need to go straight and drop the height.

But after Figs, just the most interesting begins.

Plot Fig - Icicle

In order to get to the icicle, you need to go through the whole Fig. This can and should be done without gaining altitude, moving along the sea. There is a path there.

Along this path you will come to the cape, you need to cross it. Here you already need to gain height, but not much, 50 meters maximum.

Having crossed the cape, you will see this picture:

The icicle looks like a small rock, but this is deceptive. It just seems not big due to other mountains that rise up to 500 meters around. It's actually impressive...here's a photo that shows the scale.

At this point, you need to be careful. There is a trail, but you can skip it. The trail lowers its altitude and leads to an icicle. The trail is good, you can safely walk, if you have problems descending, then most likely this is not the right trail ...

Also near the icicle will be the entrance to the reserve. Here are the gates.

After the gate there will still be a trail, but not for long. It leads to the sea, and then the route passes through stones and boulders. In some places you need to jump over, in some places you need to climb. But this is interesting in its own way.

Here is a short video from the cape beyond Fig:

Plot Icicle - Sail

This section can be described as follows: jumping on stones, swimming and again jumping on stones. Visually, it seems that it is not far from the icicle to the sail, but firstly, this is a visual deception, and secondly, there will be no more trails, and the speed of movement is significantly reduced.

Here is a video after the crossing:

After the crossing in the Parus area, there will be a site with a large number of cow parsnip. Be careful not to get into it.

Section Parus - Kazan-Dere

At the very beginning, there will be a rather difficult section. Its difficulty lies in the fact that having crossed the cape near the sail, it will be necessary to drop the height. There is not much height, 20 meters, but in this place there is a very steep drop, there is practically nothing to hold on to and in order to go down, you need to think a little. There is nothing extreme in the descent, but you can’t call it pleasant either.

Here is a short video near the sail:

Then again on the rocks, there are no difficulties ... On the rocks you will go out to the cove. I highly recommend swimming in this place, not because there is a cool beach, on the contrary, the beach is not important there, but because there will be no further opportunity to swim and there will be a difficult climb.

There is a rock near the bay, you will understand everything on the spot ... And from the bay the path to Kazan-Dere starts. In the picture below, I roughly indicated where this trail passes. When I went to the Rhino for the first time, I did not know that there were trails there, and I walked through the bushes intuitively (but this is not the best solution, believe me 🙂)

Here is a short video near Kazan-Dere:

On the video, I made a mistake and point to the wrong transshipment. It turned out that you need to go much higher. Ideally, you need to climb close to Kazan-Dera along a good path, and then go to the right (if you stand with your back to the sea). There will also be a semblance of a path, but it is poorly distinguishable and often lost, so, most likely, you will have to make your way through the bushes ...

Section Kazan-Dere - Rhinoceros

At this point, my intuition let me down (or I behaved self-confidently and simply did not listen to it). I went into some impassable jungle a couple of times, spent a lot of time and energy, and I even began to have thoughts that I would not have time to climb the Rhino Horn.

And then I turned off my self-confidence and asked the Rhino for permission to go up to him. It worked 🙂 I got on the right path ...

Here is a video from that place:

If you go to this place, then you will not have any problems, there is more or less, but the direction is clear, there is a path, at least something similar to it ... But you still need to be careful, because you never relax in the mountains it is forbidden.

The most adrenaline filled site. The purpose of this whole trip 🙂

Here is a video describing the route to Rhinoceros Horn

I must say that in this place you need to concentrate as much as possible. When I climbed here for the first time, I climbed on adrenaline ... I did not know the route and was not sure that I would be able to descend safely. And when I went down to the bay and realized that all the dangers were left behind, the action of adrenaline ended ...

But along with the adrenaline, my strength also ended ... and I also had to swim and jump over stones ... In general, that time I was very tired. And this time I decided to return along the Great Sevastopol Trail ... but I wasn’t sure yet that I could go to it.

And here is a video from the bottom of the gutter, along which you need to climb the horn:

A few words about the gutter. Technically, climbing it is not difficult, but psychologically, there are nuances. Firstly, when you are alone in the mountains, this is already an automatically increased risk, and secondly, climbing rocks without insurance, even on simple ones, is also extreme ... In short, be very careful in this place. Nothing complicated, but again, it's all relative.

In the gutter itself there are two relatively difficult places where you need to climb ... But their difficulty is more psychological, because they can be climbed even in sandals.

Here is a video from the gutter:

Well, the actual video from the horn itself:

Conclusions:

  1. Go far to the Rhino 🙂
  2. There are three options for passing the route: from Balaklava, from Laspi and from Goncharny (Reserve ... These two villages are nearby). More about these options will be a separate article.
  3. In July it is better not to go there. Very hot.
  4. This route is not recommended for beginners.

Well, a video with my comments about the route, so to speak, in hot pursuit:

On the Great Sevastopol trail

In order to return home, I had to go to the Great Sevastopol trail (Balaklava-Laspi section) and follow it to the Balaklava embankment. For this you need in the areaKazan-Dere go upstairs, there is a path. But I was not yet sure that it was possible to connect these sections ... Now it is already clear that it is possible, but then there was no such confidence.

To do this, after descending from the horn of the Rhinoceros, here you need to be careful, since descending from the horn is also quite an interesting activity, return to Kazan-Dere along the same path that you came (a large rock mass, there is only one in that area and you cannot see it). confuse). A kind of path leads to it, then a little simple climbing and you are already on Kazan-Der ...

From Kazan-Dere, along a well-defined path, we go up to the exit to the Great Sevastopol path. Approximate climb 150 meters.

In the area of the exit to the trail, there will be a sign with your coordinates and the distance to Laspi and Balaklava. I really hoped that there would be no more than 7 km to Balaklava, but it turned out to be 10 km. I went on the trail at seven o'clock in the evening, and reached the stop in Balaklava only at 21:30.

Once on the trail, you can calm down, because it is simply impossible to get lost on it ... And if you have the strength, you will enjoy great views.

I returned already in the dark and tired ... But the views were gorgeous.

I'll give you some more advice. Having reached the spring, it is better to go down to Fig, and from Fig to go to Balaklava through the Golden Beach. BUT, if you do not know this route, then it is better to follow the road with signs.

Walking along the road following the signs, at least you will not get lost, and if you have not been on the barrel of death, then the road will take you there. But before the barrel of death there is a climb, and after a hard hiking day, such a climb will not be a joy ... I went to the barrel and the ascent was really not a joy :)

He climbed up the barrel already in the dark. Cool views of the night Balaklava and Sevastopol open up. But I wanted to catch the bus, so I did not stay long and quickly rolled down the mountain.

To be honest, the hike tired me out, and I started dreaming about cold lemonade long before the end of the route ... But how delicious it is then ... so desired and long-awaited 🙂 I'm talking about lemonade.

Afterword

During such trips, when you get tired on the route, thoughts “Why do you need all this?” and promises are made to yourself on such trips more than a foot ... But time passes, and quite a bit, and plans for new routes creep into your head again. I am sure that many will understand me :)

At the moment, I plan to go through the route from Generalsky through the Dzhur-Dzhur waterfall to South Demerdzhi with access to the Angarsk pass ... The interest is fueled by the fact that there are no reports of such a route on the network, and many people I talked to say that it will not work to pass it in one day … And this is a challenge :)

I hope the article will be interesting and useful for you. And if you have any questions, you can ask in the comments. I will definitely answer.

Happy hiking!!!

Trekking or, in Russian, hiking with a backpack on your back - was a popular type of tourism and recreation in the days of the USSR.

In the USSR, amateur tourism was encouraged and developed: there were tourist clubs at the factories where you could rent equipment for free. Tourist routes throughout the country were developed centrally and professionally. Then it partially died out: the factory tourist clubs were closed, many routes went into oblivion - the roads were overgrown, the marks were worn out, because the marked path also needs care.

In recent years, I have been watching with great joy the rise of interest in amateur hiking: trekking and hiking, as it is now fashionable to call it.

For those who are not in the subject: trekking - you walk across rough terrain and carry a backpack with a tent and food, hiking - you go from a shelter to a shelter or from a hotel to a hotel, an easier option for traveling, but losing autonomy - you need to reach the future overnight stay before nightfall.

As we prepared for hike in the Crimea in January 2018 , I came across information that a new tourist route called the "Great Sevastopol Trail" is being developed in Crimea. With pleasure, we included a section of this trail in our track in order to look at it and feel it, so to speak, with our feet.

The route project was signed by the government of Sevastopol in 2015, and began to be implemented in 2016.
On the whole, the 130 km long route has an almost radial character - it makes a huge semicircle along the peninsula from Sevastopol to Balaklava - from the shores of the Black Sea through the central part of Crimea. At the moment, only the section Balaklava - Laspi pass has been implemented (cleared, signs installed). And that's exactly where we went.

For more information about the Great Sevastopol Trail project, please visit the website https://bst-sev.ru/ and I will share with you photos and impressions.

It should be noted that we walked along the route during the New Year holidays, when the January nature of the Crimea is not as dazzlingly bright as in summer. But there were also advantages to passing in winter: there was no heat, so we calmly walked all daylight hours without the risk of grabbing a sunstroke. And, of course, we were lucky with the weather - the first week of 2018 was dry, sunny and snowless.
Daytime temperatures ranged from +10 to +15, nighttime from +5 to -2 C. This information will be useful to those who will pick up a sleeping bag for a similar trip.
Strong winds blowing off our feet, with which our experienced comrades frightened us, were also not noticed. Even on windy evenings, we always found an almost windless hollow in the folds of the mountains or a clearing to put up tents.

We went to the Great Sevastopol trail from Foros.
There is a good canteen in Foros, which is open even in winter, as well as shops where we bought a supply of pasta and stew, bread and a supply of water.
In order not to gain altitude and not lose several hours of time, climbing the asphalt road on foot, we took a taxi and "thrown" to the church above the city.

The Church of the Ascension of Christ was built in 1892 at the request of Alexander III. An event happened to the king that shocked him: the train car in which the royal family rode went off the rails, but he himself and his children remained alive. Built to commemorate the "miraculous salvation," the church has since risen above Foros on a rock.

Here is the realm of fogs lying on the ground of clouds and silence.
As well as a huge number of mosses, lichens and other plants unusual in central Russia.
Clouds come and cover the tops of the mountains. Then they lie down on the ground and now there is only fog around.
And then they float away - and come again.

Another attraction on the route of the Great Sevastopol Trail is Tyshlar or Devil's Fingers.
These are rocks protruding vertically from the ground, as if someone was trying to break out from under the earth cover, stuck out his hand - and turned to stone.
This is a popular place for weekend hikes with locals and a "magic point of power" where tourists are taken to put a coin and make a wish.

We go to the Laspi pass.
There is a motor road not far away, there is a cafe there, but we decide not to go down to the road.
In the photo - a view from above, from the trail to the pass, the track and the cafe.

And here is the first information board of the trail. The photo was taken on the phone, so the quality is not very good, it was already getting dark.
The billboards - and they are quite common - indicate the distance to the nearest attractions, the distance to the end of the route (Balaklava), emergency phone numbers and the coordinates of the place where we are now.

We followed the navigation program maps.mi with a pre-laid route, but on the Sevastopol trail you can safely go without a navigator - you won’t get lost.

That part of the route, which we passed, already marked, passes through the yayla and mountain peaks along the sea.
This is a very spectacular trail with many exits to viewing platforms.

However, the sun was already setting and it was time to look for a place to spend the night.
Maps.my shows places where other tourists have set up tents. But in the navigation of the Sevastopol trail, this information moment is absent.
Either it is assumed that the tourist must pass all 130 km non-stop ... which is unrealistic. Either a temporary flaw, I hope this moment will be taken into account in the future and corrected.
Indicating on the information board how many kilometers to the nearest campsite is a useful tool for novice tourists traveling without a navigator.
And the level of difficulty of the trail is just beginner.

After spending the night in a hollow between the mountains near some abandoned building, the next morning we broke camp and set off.
On this day, we had the task of reaching Balaklava, to the end of this section of the Sevastopol trail.

Observation deck.

And here the trail passes at the foot of the rocks. The overhanging stone wall looks very beautiful and large-scale.

One of the plateaus is a giant natural aviary for wild boars. Here they live in freedom, dig the earth for their own pleasure.
An enclosure with an area of several square kilometers, no less, is fenced with a metal fence with gates.
There are no locks - you just need to close the door behind you so that grunting friends do not scatter all over the peninsula.
We did not meet face to face with wild boars, but their traces came across all the time.
In search of food, wild boars dig the ground like electric plows - they loosen the soil like real summer residents.

Gradually, the path begins to lose height - we go down it closer to the sea, but do not go ashore, the path continues to wind towards Balaklava, just not in the highlands anymore.

In some places the trail is wide, as if for driving a car - apparently, they drive a lot on ATVs there. Narrow in places, but trodden and cleared.
Blockages of dry wood, branches, stones are not met.

Often the navigator suggested a shorter route to us, and then we "cut off" the mileage a little in the wilder area.

By the evening of the second day of passing along the trail, we reached the finish line, in Balaklava.
It took two days of leisurely walking and one overnight to pass the section from Foros to Balaklava (28 km).
The Foros-Laspi section is not yet marked, it is about 8 km. The Laspi-Balaklava section is marked, 20 km.
Light, without tents, a trained person can pass in one day.

Conclusion:
The Great Sevastopol Trail is a stunningly interesting and necessary project.
Of the 130 km of the route, 20 have now been cleared and marked. Information boards have been put up.
I was pleased with the well-information-filled site - for example, the section Attractions - https://bst-sev.ru/points?page=1
Of course, not all the sights of the route are listed there - but there is already something to start from, get interested in - and come and go.

With proper development and information support, the "Great Sevastopol Trail" has a chance to become as popular as the famous Lycian trail . The fame of the Lycian Way began with the book of a single tourist, and now it is one of the best trekking routes in the world, for which thousands of tourists fly to Turkey every year.
The idea to intensively develop and promote tourism with tents, as it does not require large financial costs or special physical training (in the case of prepared routes), seems to me very correct.
A start has been made - the route is being marked.
And how to popularize it - LiveJournal, social networks, publications in the media to help.
I personally would be happy to go the entire route, all 130 km.
I hope this project has a great future.
