Biography

Vasil Trayanov Boyanov was born in Sliven, but grew up in Kostinbrod and Sofia. Comes from a wealthy Roma family; the mother belongs to the Kelderara gypsy ethnic group, the father to the Erliya. At the age of 11, his family moved to Germany, where Vasil worked as a dog walker. There he studies German, and his sister Matilda is born there. In Germany, he tries to realize himself as a model, but he fails. In a modeling agency, he meets Yuliana Kyncheva, with whom they become good friends.

One of the first performances was a performance in the "Roma" ensemble. At the beginning of 1999, he signed his first contract with the Maraton Records label, at the same time Azis was born - the singer chose a pseudonym for himself on behalf of the main character of a Turkish film. His first songs were included in the compilation DJ Folkmaraton. However, the producer of "Sunny Music" Krum Asanov opened Azis to the general public. Azis approached him with his first album of gypsy songs. Asanov decided to give him a chance due to his gypsy origin. Azis himself described their first album "Nokat" as "full boza" (a Bulgarian drink similar to mash). Popularity brings their second album - "You can eat and cry". Azis has currently released eleven studio albums.

On May 3, 2005, he was elected the honorary chairman of the Eurorom Political Movement party, where he also headed the Commission on Culture. In the summer of 2005, he was a candidate for deputy, but could not enter the National Assembly. He is the author of most of the party's educational program. According to Azis, parents of children who study well at school should receive money for this, and in classes where there are 30% of Bulgarians, everyone should receive free textbooks and teaching aids; urges Eurorom lawmakers to give up their salaries.

On May 18, 2006, together with Mariana Popova, he performed from Bulgaria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with the song "Let Me Cry" as a backing vocalist. He did not participate in the qualifying competition in Bulgaria, because he did not want to cause speculation with his participation that his fame could stir up interest in the song of Mariana Popova.

In 2006 he published an autobiography "Az, AZIS", co-authored with the Bulgarian actress, singer and writer Vanya Shchereva.

In 2007 he was nominated for participation in the project of the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) "Velite balgari" ("Great Bulgarians"), in which he took 21st place among the hundred greatest Bulgarians of all time (and, in fact, became the second living after footballer Hristo Stoichkov, who took 12th place).

On August 5, 2007, Azis's daughter Raya Vasileva is born. The girl's mother is his longtime friend, folk singer Gala.

Popularity in Russia

Azis became widely known in Russia only in 2011. Then his video for the song "Mrazish" began to be actively disseminated in Runet. Apparently he did so in vain, Conchita's experience shows this.

In the next 2007 in Bulgaria on the television channel "BNT" the project "Great Bulgarians" (bulgarian Velikite българи) was carried out. On this project, footballer Hristo Stoichkov took 12th place, and singer Azis was already 21st among the hundred greatest Bulgarians of all time!
