Nestlé's largest social development project in Russia is the Nutrition Conversation program.

The Nutrition Conversation is a unique nationwide educational program for children, the main goal of which is to foster a nutritional culture in children as part of a healthy lifestyle.

* The program has been working in schools and kindergartens in Russia since 1999.

* Currently, more than 1.1 million schoolchildren from 52 regions of Russia participate in the program annually.

* Over the years of the program, 6.5 million children and adolescents have taken part in it.

* All teaching materials are distributed free of charge.

* During the implementation of the program, Nestlé has invested over 380 million rubles in its development.

The development of the program was carried out at the Institute of Developmental Physiology of the Russian Academy of Education, a leading Russian scientific institution dealing with the development of the child's body, preserving and strengthening the health of the younger generation.

The head of the team of authors is the Director of the Institute, Academician of the Russian Academy of Education M.M. Handless. The program participants are schools and preschool institutions of 52 regions of Russia. The implementation of the "Conversation on Good Nutrition" is carried out in close cooperation with both regional education departments and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

The Institute of Developmental Physiology of the Russian Academy of Education provides constant scientific and methodological support to the program. Since 2012, the program has also been supported by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IIAF), helping to promote healthy lifestyles and nutrition.

Within the framework of the program, 3 educational and methodological kits were prepared, including workbooks for children of different ages, methodological manuals for teachers, posters and brochures for parents:

* "Conversation about proper nutrition" - for children 6-8 years old,

* "Two weeks in the health camp" - for children 9-11 years old,

* "Formula of proper nutrition" - for adolescents 12-14 years old.

Since 2013, the third part of the Nutrition Conversation program has been supplemented with an interactive multimedia guide.

Learning according to the program is built in a playful, entertaining form for children, which allows them to easily master the rules of a healthy lifestyle. The content of the program covers a variety of aspects related to proper nutrition: children not only learn about the basic rules for drawing up a diet and diet, but also get acquainted with the culinary traditions and customs of the peoples of their country and other countries, master the basics of culinary skills, learn to set the table beautifully and etc.

Among the participants of the program are not only students of general education schools, but also pupils of orphanages, boarding schools, etc. Training under the program is of particular importance for them, as it allows them to acquire important practical skills, contributes to their more effective social adaptation.

For “Nutrition Conversation”, school teachers use classroom hours, electives, class holidays, and also integrate the material into the content of basic school subjects.

Parents of schoolchildren take the most active part in the program. As the research carried out within the framework of the project has shown, more than 70% of dads and mothers noted that their acquaintance with the "Conversation about proper nutrition" significantly expanded their knowledge related to a healthy lifestyle.

In many schools, parent clubs and lecture halls have appeared, where issues related to proper nutrition are considered. Within the framework of the project, three competitions are regularly held - a competition for teaching methods, a competition for children's creative works and a competition for family photographs.

The winners of competitions from the regions are invited to Moscow to participate in the annual conference “Raising a Healthy Generation”. Since 2013, an Internet competition has also been held for children studying the City of Health program.

For 16 years of the program's work, we are proud of its results. According to the latest monitoring of the effectiveness of the program, almost 90% of parents noted that the study of the program helped them in organizing the nutrition of their children; 87% reported positive changes in children's nutritional behavior; more than 94% of parents would like their children to continue studying the program; more than 96% of children said they liked the program.

In schools where the program has been implemented for several years, the organization of school meals is improving - the number of schoolchildren who have breakfast and lunch in the canteen (rather than having a dry meal during recess) is increasing, the range of school buffets is becoming more diverse and useful.

Taking into account the huge contribution of the program to the formation of a culture of children's health, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation recommended it for widespread implementation in the practice of educational institutions.

Taking into account the positive experience in the implementation of the program, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation recommended it for widespread implementation in the practice of educational institutions.

“During the existence of the program, more than 7.5 million teenagers have taken part in it. More than a million children from 6 to 14 years old participate in the program every year. The conference has once again shown how important we are doing together. We see that our program is needed and in demand ”, - said the head of the educational programs department of Nestlé Russia, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Alexandra Makeeva.

Promotion of any Nestlé products is completely excluded within the framework of the program. This is a modular educational project that can work in different educational institutions: kindergartens, schools, institutions of additional education. The teacher independently chooses the form of its implementation, the sequence and duration of the study of topics. The content of the program is based on Russian culinary traditions and takes into account the different levels of income in the families of students.

Nestle food: right and tasty

The Nestlé Nutritional Profiling System was developed to assess the nutritional value of foods and beverages. Nestlé continually optimizes the nutritional composition of its products.

As we strive to continually improve the nutritional value of Nestlé products, we have been reducing sugar content for many years. Between 2000 and 2014, we reduced the total sugar content of our products by 34%. This figure is based on the total sugar we purchased and our total sales during that period.

In 2007, we introduced a mandatory policy to continually reduce sugar levels, especially in foods that have a significant impact on total sugar consumption. This includes set meals, snacks and drinks, as well as foods intended primarily for children, such as breakfast cereals.

We use a limited amount of sweeteners to reduce sugar and provide sweet taste in drinks, for example, without compromising product quality, regulatory compliance or consumer preferences.

Salt

We strive to continually improve the nutritional value of our products while ensuring a delicious taste.

Sodium is a component of many elements in the food we eat. Salt is the main source of sodium in our diet. Epidemiological studies have linked excessive sodium (or salt) intake to high blood pressure. There is scientific evidence that lowering blood pressure by reducing sodium (or salt) intake can reduce the risk of premature death from cardiovascular disease and stroke, as well as kidney disease.

In 2005, as part of our commitment to continuous product improvement to improve consumer health, Nestlé introduced a policy to significantly reduce the salt content of its products. By the end of 2007, we had reduced the salt level in our food by 10%. By the end of 2014, we had reduced the salt level to 75% of the original recipes. Overall, we have reduced salt use in our product portfolio by over 12,000 metric tons over the past 14 years.

We have pledged not to increase salt levels in our products, nor to reduce salt levels in those products where possible. Nutritionists are unanimous in the opinion that reducing salt intake has a positive effect on.

Trans fatty acids (TFA)

Since 1999, we have adopted a policy that, when consumed normally, the TFA level in our products should not exceed 3% of the total fat in foods, or 1% of the daily calorie intake (as recommended by the World Health Organization). We especially insist on reducing TFA levels in foods for children and in foods that contain high levels of TFA, such as soups, snacks, pizzas and ready meals.

TFAs occur naturally in milk fat. We use it extensively in production. It remains controversial whether they have the same effects as TFAs from vegetable oils. Therefore, milk fat is not covered by our policy. To meet a variety of nutritional needs, Nestlé offers low fat, low fat and whole milk products.

Saturated fat

Our policy is to reduce saturated fatty acid levels where possible, not to increase existing levels. We support scientific advances in research on dietary saturated fatty acids and their health effects.

Organic food

In some countries, Nestlé offers organic products in addition to the regular range, provided it makes commercial sense and is technically feasible.

In many countries, prior to placing a product on the market, all health claims must be registered and approved by local authorities. In other countries (such as the United States and the European Union), approval processes only apply to certain categories of food, in particular when they are new or when manufacturers claim health benefits. We believe that all claims must be scientifically based and we welcome regulations that help protect health and safety.

Nestlé strives to promote healthy eating practices to the food market by drawing the attention of consumers in its advertising to the need to lead an active lifestyle, while using the most cost-effective sports, such as for example.

The Nutritional Conversation program brings together parents and teachers to promote healthy habits in children.

Moscow, September 29, 2016 - Nestlé Russia held a press conference “Partnership between families and schools in shaping a culture of nutrition in children and adolescents”, during which the issues of joint participation of families and school teachers in shaping the principles of a healthy lifestyle were discussed. children and adolescents.

Within the framework of the press conference in the teleconference mode, the representatives of the territorial centers for the implementation of the program "Conversation about proper nutrition" in Kazan and Orel took part. They shared their experiences of working with schoolchildren and their parents in developing healthy eating habits, including tips for organizing joint activities and lectures.

According to Inna Potapova, head of the health protection department of the Institute for the Development of Education of the Oryol Region, the program "Talk about proper nutrition" helps to achieve the tasks formulated in the Federal State Educational Standard of Preschool Education: the formation of the values of a healthy lifestyle for children and increasing the competence of parents in matters of protecting and promoting health child. In preschool institutions of the region, parents are happy to take part in various forms of joint activities with a child offered by the program, families are very competitive.

Parents play an important role in the implementation of the Program in Kazan as well. “With the introduction of the Nutrition Conversation program, we have significantly changed the nutrition system at school, and parents are helping us to improve it. We employ them as administrators at the school restaurant. They watch how the children eat, how the food is prepared. By analyzing the data received from them, we are improving the system of the school restaurant, ”says the director of school # 146 Dilyara Karimova.

The importance of such events was assessed by independent experts - representatives of the public policy sector in the field of general education and children's health.

“Food preferences in children are not formed instantly - this is a long systemic process that requires the active involvement of the family. To attract parents to the work of the program, various ways are used: contests, culinary master classes, holidays for children and adults, ”comments Maryana Bezrukikh, Director of the Institute of Developmental Physiology of the Russian Academy of Education.

Proper nutrition is the basis of a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, now there is a tendency to decrease the quality of nutrition in children and adolescents. This is confirmed by Adilya Safronova, senior researcher at the Federal Research Center for Nutrition and Biotechnology, PhD in Medicine: “There is evidence that about 45% of 11-year-old children do not eat breakfast at home, and use not the most useful products for snacks. Thus, according to the Federal State Statistics Service, about 20% of 12-13-year-old children consume sweet carbonated drinks, and about 18% of children consume chips, crackers and fast food products, while only 40% of children consume fermented milk products daily (data from the Institute of Nutrition). Therefore, we believe it is necessary to help children make healthy choices and develop the right habits. ”

“Studying the program allows the child not only to learn more about proper nutrition, but also to learn good habits associated with taking care of their own health. As our research shows, children participating in the program are more likely to follow the diet, more often to choose healthy meals for their diet. At the same time, schoolchildren not only learn to eat right themselves, but also teach their parents to do it, ”summed up Alexandra Makeeva, head of the“ Talk about proper nutrition ”program.
