Today in Moscow, during the RIW 2017 forum, the award ceremony for the winners of the Third All-Russian Contest “Thanks to the Internet 2017!” took place. The competition is organized by the developers of the ABC of the Internet program by the Pension Fund of Russia and PJSC Rostelecom for Internet users of retirement and pre-retirement age who have completed computer literacy courses.

The competition received more than 3,000 applications from 76 regions of the Russian Federation.

The winners were determined by an authoritative Competition Commission, which included representatives of the Pension Fund, Rostelecom, the Ministry of Social Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the Russian Association for Electronic Communications and the Regional Public Center for Internet Technologies.

Among the participants of the Competition 85.7% are women and 14.3% are men. The age limits of the potential audience of the ABC of the Internet project, judging by the competition statistics for three years, are expanding from 50 to 100 years and more.

So, the record of 2017 was the participation in the competition of Nadezhda Petrovna Myagkikh from the city of Bratsk, Irkutsk Region, who is 101 years old! Four more participants are over 90 years old.

69% of the competition entries came from pensioners who were trained in specialized courses, 31% studied on their own, including through the ABC of the Internet program. In 2015, the ratio for this indicator was 85.3% and 15.7%, respectively.

Recall that the training manual and the Internet portal “Azbuka Interneta” were developed as part of an agreement signed in 2014 between the Pension Fund and Rostelecom on cooperation in teaching pensioners computer literacy. The purpose of the cooperation is to facilitate the access of pensioners to receive public services in electronic form and improve the quality of life through computer literacy training and working on the Internet.

The materials of the curriculum and teaching aid "The ABC of the Internet" were reviewed by the Institute of Informatization of Education of the Russian Academy of Education. From the conclusion of the Institute, it follows that the materials submitted for review meet all the requirements for educational and methodological materials, are published in a timely manner, are useful and necessary for the audience to which they are addressed.

In 2014, Rostelecom and the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of teaching pensioners computer literacy. The purpose of the signed Agreement is to make it easier for the older generation to access public services in electronic form via the Internet and to improve the quality of life through computer literacy training and working on the Internet.

As part of the implementation of the Agreement in 2014, Rostelecom and the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation prepared a special educational manual for the elderly called ABCs of the Internet. The manual was developed by specialists - educators, psychologists-gerontologists and IT-specialists. The course program is constantly evolving, and the textbook is supplemented with new modules and relevant information.

The manual can be used as a self-instruction manual when working on a computer and on the Internet, as well as a textbook for specialized computer literacy courses for pensioners that are widespread in the subjects of the Russian Federation.

The electronic version of the ABC of the Internet textbook, which is posted on the educational portal www.azbukainterneta.ru, specially created within the framework of the project, has become a significant help for teachers throughout Russia. In addition to the ABCs of the Internet textbook, the portal contains guidelines for teaching older people the basics of working on a computer and the Internet, visual aids, presentations for each topic of the textbook, useful links and recommendations for teachers on the features of teaching older people, on the necessary technical equipping classes and a lot of other useful information. There is also an opportunity to ask questions that arise in the learning process to the developers of the textbook and the portal.

The first groups for training under the ABC of the Internet program were recruited in Bryansk, Volgograd, Vologda, Tula and Stavropol. On September 18, 2014, training began at specially organized computer courses. In Nizhny Novgorod and the Nizhny Novgorod region, the social protection authorities equipped and provided for use 128 computer classes for learning the ABC.

In November 2015, the program was presented at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Yerevan, where it aroused great interest. As a result, materials specially adapted for Russian-speaking pensioners of the Republic of Armenia appeared on the azbukainterneta.ru portal.

The ABCs of the Internet for Senior Citizens is a program for older people designed to close the gap in computer literacy. The use of public services will become more comfortable, and Internet skills will be useful in everyday life. Who said that age is a hindrance to new knowledge? Nonsense, depends on teachers and desire. Do you have free time? Why waste it when there are so many interesting things in the world.

The Pension Fund, together with Rostelecom, has figured out how to help pensioners stay active and keep up with the times - ABC Internet will eliminate gaps in knowledge or help them acquire the necessary knowledge from scratch. Training is provided free of charge.
