In the scientific world, to this day they have not come to a consensus - hellebore medicine or poison. The old medical principle wins: "Poison in small doses becomes medicine." They are guided by the daredevils who decide to improve their health with the help of hellebore. The scope and contraindications of Caucasian hellebore are wide and controversial.

Plant characteristic

Caucasian hellebore grass can be found on the edges of oak, fir-spruce and beech forests. The plant feels great at an altitude of up to 1000 m above sea level, so it often grows in gorges and on sloping mountain slopes.

The healing species of hellebore is common in the Caucasus Mountains, found in the southwestern part of the Krasnodar Territory. Grass can be found in almost the entire territory of Georgia, as well as in the Ukrainian mountains of the Carpathians. It grows along the Black Sea coast, in the foothills of the Kuban. Often thickets of hellebore can be found along the bright bank of a mountain river. The grass is frost-resistant, in the highlands it blooms in February-March.

Description

The plant is one of the perennial herbs. It reproduces vegetatively, as well as with the help of fruits, therefore it often forms a kind of thicket.

  • root system. Horizontal rhizome with short adventitious roots in the form of cords. The color of the bark is dark brown.
  • stems. Erect, cylindrical, 30 to 50 cm long. They are flower stalks, slightly branching upwards. 1-2 flowers grow on one stem. Occasionally, small sessile leaves form on the stems.
  • Leaves . Two or three evergreen long-leaved leaves form a basal rosette. Palmate dissection forms from one leaf 5-11 broadly obovate or broadly lanceolate leaves. At the end of each of them there is a sharpening.
  • Flowers. They bloom up to 4 cm in diameter, the petals are light green in color with brown or reddish veins.
  • Fruits. Represented by unfused leaflets, with black, smooth, oblong seeds.

Due to frost resistance and early flowering, the grass is often grown in flowerbed gardens as an ornamental plant.

Procurement of raw materials

The raw materials of Caucasian hellebore used for treatment are dried roots. They are harvested in the fall, after the fruit has completely fallen off. The collection of raw materials requires caution, since wet roots are capable of releasing toxic volatile substances that affect the nervous system and cause headaches, dizziness, and nausea. Even when digging up a plant, it is worth protecting your respiratory organs with a charcoal respirator. The process of harvesting Caucasian hellebore is in seven stages.

  1. Selected mature plants are dug up along with the root.
  2. With the help of scissors, the aerial part is separated from the root system, damaged roots or their fragments are removed.
  3. The collected roots are washed with cool running water.
  4. The first part of drying involves airing the roots in limbo from excess moisture in the open air.
  5. After drying, the roots are laid out in one layer on cotton fabric in a shaded, well-ventilated place.
  6. When using a dryer, it is necessary to adhere to a temperature regime of 40-45 ° C.
  7. After complete drying, the raw materials are packed in plastic bags and hung in a dry, dark, well-ventilated area.

With proper preparation, the dried root of Caucasian hellebore has a wrinkled surface, a dark brown, matte color and a cream-colored kink. The smell of raw materials is specific, unpleasant, the taste is burning bitter.

What is the value

Hellebore is a unique plant that can have a therapeutic effect on the human body. This is due to the high content of biologically active substances of various nature and their therapeutic effect.

  • cardiac glycosides. The glycoside corelborin K is concentrated in the Caucasian hellebore. It has a tonic effect on the myocardium, regulates arterial and venous pressure, increases the strength of heart contractions, normalizes the conduction system of the heart, improves peripheral blood flow, providing tissues with sufficient oxygen supply.
  • Complex of steroidal saponins. It has an anti-inflammatory effect, regulates the production of hormones, increases the speed and quality of the immune response. Normalizes electrolyte metabolism, improves bronchial secretion, has an expectorant effect by stimulating the cough center in the medulla oblongata.
  • Fatty vegetable oils. They participate in regeneration processes, stimulate cell renewal, and neutralize the effects of carcinogens on the human body.
  • alkaloid compounds. They exhibit anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antispasmodic effects. They have a slight hypotensive effect, normalize the work of the central nervous system. In small doses, the effect is sedative, in large doses it is tonic.
  • Anthraglycosides. Natural laxatives that cleanse the intestines by gently irritating its walls. They have a mild choleretic and diuretic effect. Remove toxins and fecal stones.
  • Flavonoids. They normalize the heart rate, the permeability of the walls of blood vessels and the speed of peripheral blood flow.
  • Coumarins. They have an antitumor effect by inhibiting the activity of atypical cells, normalize heart rhythm, and have antioxidant properties.
  • Vitamins A, C, D, E. They act as natural antioxidants, contribute to the normalization of metabolic processes, regulate the production of hormones.

Corelborin K is considered to be the most active chemical in Caucasian hellebore. It is recognized by the world of science as one of the strongest natural cardiac glycosides. This substance serves as the active ingredient of the drug "Corelborin". It qualitatively differs from other cardiac glycosides by the ability to retain its effect when ingested, while all the others are inactivated by the action of gastric juice. In its strength, the glycoside is superior to that extracted from lily of the valley and is not inferior to strophanthin. The toxicity of corelborin is considered moderate. According to its ability to accumulate, hellebore is considered an analogue of foxglove.

Healing effects

The main therapeutic effect of Caucasian hellebore is cardiotonic - the ability to enhance contractions, increase their amplitude, eliminate tachycardia, increase myocardial endurance, and reduce its ischemia. Cardiotonic and cardioprotective effects only open the list of positive effects.

  • It has the ability to cleanse the body. At the same time, Caucasian hellebore not only cleanses the intestines due to a laxative effect, but also helps to separate fecal deposits and remove them from the body. The plant exhibits a slight choleretic effect, gently eliminating stagnation and preventing the occurrence of gallstones. The diuretic effect promotes the removal of sand from the kidneys. Also, the herb cleanses the blood and lymphatic system, helps to eliminate toxins that have accumulated in the tissues over the years.
  • Normalizes the composition of the blood. The herb has a mild hypoglycemic effect, which is appropriate in the complex therapy of diabetes mellitus. Prevents insulin surges, reduces cravings for sweets and fatty foods, which reduces the risk of overeating. Reduces cravings for sweets and fatty foods. Reducing cholesterol levels helps prevent atherosclerosis. The Caucasian hellebore is also actively used to treat this disease.
  • Removes salt deposits. Caucasian hellebore gently removes excess salt deposits from soft tissues, as well as from joints, eliminating symptoms and stopping the development of osteochondrosis, gout, nephrourolithiasis. Regulation of electrolyte metabolism allows you to get rid of edema.
  • Regulates the digestive tract. Substances in the Caucasian hellebore stimulate the digestive organs. This contributes to the activation of the production of food juices, their saturation with enzymes. Digestion, acidity gradually normalize, dysbacteriosis, gastritis, enteritis disappear. The regenerating and anti-inflammatory effects of the plant contribute to the healing of gastric and duodenal ulcers, eliminate the symptoms of acute hemorrhoids. The intake of grass has a positive effect on the work of the pancreas and the hepatobiliary system. The liver is cleared of excess fat, and the gallbladder is cleared of flakes - the precursors of stones. The antiviral effect of hellebore helps in the treatment of hepatitis of viral origin (for example, hepatitis C).
  • Restores the functioning of the genitourinary system. Hellebore Caucasian has a pronounced diuretic effect and antimicrobial properties. In combination with an anti-inflammatory effect, it treats inflammation of the kidneys, cystitis, urethritis, prostatitis and even prostate adenoma.
  • Clears the airways. Hellebore grass has a slight expectorant effect, stimulates the production and discharge of bronchial secretions. It is used for the treatment of chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis.
  • Stimulates the glands. Since ancient times, hellebore grass has been used to treat female and male infertility, as well as thyroid disorders. The action is associated with the elimination of free radicals and the inflammatory process, as a result of which the glands are able to fully function.
  • Normalizes the functioning of the nervous system. Biologically active substances of Caucasian hellebore tend to penetrate into nerve tissues, normalize the conductivity of nerve fibers. The herb regulates serotonin metabolism, providing a mild sedative effect, manifested by the absence of anxiety, improved concentration, and increased stress resistance. Against the background of taking drugs from the plant, depression, psychosis, fatigue syndrome, and insomnia are eliminated. Adaptogenic action gives the patient a feeling of lightness, good mood, increases the endurance of the body. It has been proven that epilepsy attacks while taking hellebore occur much less frequently, and their intensity is noticeably reduced.
  • Helps in the fight against tumors. Hellebore slows down the division and accelerates the death of atypical cells, being a means of preventing oncology. The antitumor effect is also manifested in slowing down the growth of neoplasms, as well as reducing the risk of metastases. Caucasian hellebore is successfully used externally for the treatment of skin cancer and internally for the treatment of uterine fibroids, intestinal polyps.
  • Stimulates the immune system. Hellebore improves the work of the body's defenses not by stimulating the production of leukocytes, but by normalizing the maturation and release of protective cells (T-helpers, killers, macrophages) in response to inflammation. The use of the plant allows you to forget about respiratory infections even during an epidemic.
  • Rejuvenates the body. Caucasian hellebore helps to eliminate worn-out cells and restore tissues through the production of healthy ones. Reparative properties affect not only the appearance of a person taking hellebore (skin color improves, it tightens, hair loss stops, the number of wrinkles decreases), but also the functioning of his internal organs.
  • Used for body shaping. Hellebore has long been used as an effective means for weight loss. Regular use of grass will eliminate excessive appetite, bouts of hunger. With the help of hellebore, it is possible to get rid of even severe obesity. The plant increases the body's energy consumption by increasing basal metabolism and rapid cleansing. Combined with a decrease in appetite, this causes the liver to use up stored fat. A separate advantage is the preservation of skin elasticity, the elimination of cellulite, the absence of stretch marks after losing weight on hellebore.

The healing properties of hellebore do not end there. Above are the effects clearly described by traditional and official medicine. But it has not been possible to fully study the chemical composition of the Caucasian hellebore until today. Scientists believe that it is precisely unexplored substances that determine the complex positive effect on the human body.

What only names of honey you will not meet at the fair. As a beekeeper and honey market expert, I know that the lion's share of this honey is fake. Approximately 80% of honey cannot be called natural. In most cases, this is a HONEY PRODUCT. How is it made? For the manufacture of a honey product, the cheapest varieties of honey are taken (that is why Voronezh buys hundreds of tons of sunflower honey). About 60% high fructose corn syrup is added. Further dyes, flavors, flavor enhancers and other ingredients. All this is mixed or whipped and give the appearance of cream-honey. The viscosity is then chemically stabilized. For the category of honeys “with royal jelly”, the dye titanium dioxide-E171 is used (the assumption of the potential harm of titanium dioxide: studies on rats have shown that inhalation of titanium dioxide powder increases the likelihood of cancer, being carcinogenic to humans. For children, this food supplement is considered harmful). Such a product does not have any useful properties, but on the contrary, due to the large number of additives, it can cause allergies or poisoning. Be carefull!

The volume of honey product on the Russian market is colossal. Even one plant produces "honey" 2-3 times more than all beekeepers in Altai. No one knows exactly how many of these factories there are. One thing is for sure, every year the number of honey products on the market will increase, and real honey will become more difficult to find than black caviar.

The current state of the honey market is, in fact, a spit in the face of domestic beekeeping, which still exists “in spite of”, and not “thanks to” ...

This database contains the names of honeys under the guise of which this sweet paste is sold. The database will be updated and improved ...

If you buy such honey solely for its confectionery properties, then you can not read further this article, but continue to use this product along with sweets.

If you bought just such honey, then congratulations, you bought a honey product. It does not contain a single gram of royal jelly, it may not even contain honey. This is a completely useless product. Do not believe in its miraculous properties, do not give in to your emotions.

If you mix real honey with real royal jelly in a ratio of 1 to 100 (10 g of pure milk per 1 kg of honey), then 1 kg of such honey will cost MINIMUM 3,500 rubles (excluding the cost of honey). With a 0.1% content of royal jelly, honey will cost 800-900 rubles per 1 kg.

If you really need royal jelly, then buy it in a pharmacy or in a specialized beekeeping products store in an adsorbed form.

hellebore treatment

Hellebore perfectly cleanses the blood and does a number of other useful things in the body. I think that they are best treated for benign tumors, so as not to poison the body with strong poisons. Or after the treatment with strong poisons is over, for the purpose of prevention, take an annual course of taking hellebore. It will help cleanse the body of previous poisons and further restore it. Read the information below and decide if and how to use it. Personally, I took a prophylactic 9-month course (I took a mustard spoon of hellebore with honey in the evening) and am very pleased. It perfectly destroys pathogenic microbes, fungi (herpes), stimulates bile secretion, heals the prostate gland - I felt all this myself.

Hellebore, hibernator (helleborus) is a genus of perennial herbaceous plants of the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). Several types of hellebore grow on the territory of Russia. In the southwestern part - reddish hellebore, in the Caucasus - Caucasian hellebore, speckled hellebore and Abkhazian hellebore.

All parts of the plant are poisonous.

The roots and rhizomes of hellebore are harvested in autumn, they contain glycosides that are potent on the heart. The presence of plant poisons - alkaloids - explains its toxicity. And this also indicates that it can be used in oncology along with spotted hemlock, tobacco, aconite and others like them. I’ll mention right away: the stronger the smell from hellebore, the better its phytoncidal, and therefore, antitumor properties.

Hellebore has thin black roots coming out of a single rhizome, like an onion head, and only these roots are consumed. It grows in dry places.

Due to the fact that hellebore is poisonous and emits fumes harmful to humans, people who collect it, in order to protect themselves from its harmful effects (its smell causes heaviness in the head), should eat garlic and drink wine before picking it.

The best hellebore is medium: not young and not old, not thick and not thin. It is ash-coloured, breaks easily, is not too dense, and has a sort of cobweb inside; it is pungent in taste and stings the tongue.

Actions, properties and application according to ancient sources

The hellebore dissolves, thins and strongly cleanses, so that it even eats dead meat, if the dead and rotten meat in the wound is smeared with vinegar.

Dissolves black bile and mucus. Therefore, it is useful in the spillage of black bile and its predominance and removes it from the whole body without unpleasant sensations (this is the blackness that we see when cleansing the liver). It also removes yellow bile and mucus and any excess that is mixed with blood from the most distant parts of the body and from the skin. For this reason, it can cure vitiligo (by normalizing the function of the liver, blood and skin).

One of the amazing properties of hellebore is that it changes the nature in the body and makes it renewed, youthful.

Has laxative properties. Helps with epilepsy, melancholy, dementia, chronic migraine.

With hardened fistulas, hellebore tears off the hardening. A kind of wick is made from it, which is put into the fistula and left there for several days. When the wick is removed, the hellebore appears to have torn off the hardening with its burning power.

Hellebore helps with paralysis and joint pain. If you rinse your mouth with vinegar, it stops the toothache.

Hellebore is very useful for tumors in the intestines and bladder and drives menstruation and urine.

It is suitable for men and masculine women, as well as for strong men and youths with a body rich in juices and full-blooded, but not suitable for people who are plump and loose. This is a very important remark, which indicates that thin persons should also take it carefully.

The following is considered a good way to use it: take small petioles growing at the root, moisten them with a little water, remove the peel from them, dry them in the shade and use them, grinding and sifting. At one time they give to drink from 1.5 to 3 g. It is best to give it to drink with celery and carrot seeds. In some cases, they give to drink up to 4.25 g.

It is said to be harmful to the kidneys and causes choking, 6 g of it causes convulsions. Its harmful effect is eliminated by marshmallow, parsley and savory.

It normalizes metabolism (due to the fact that it primarily normalizes liver function) and is an excellent tool for losing weight.

It has a diuretic and laxative effect - cleanses the intestines, removes sand from the urinary tract.

Helps cleanse the body of toxins, radioactive elements, heavy metals.

It has a pronounced choleretic effect.

Improves heart function, prevents the development of vascular disorders and chronic insufficiency, stroke.

It has a pronounced antitumor effect (myomas, fibromas, mastopathy, polyps, breast cancer, chronic prostatitis, prostate adenoma).

A strong remedy for diseases of the joints, osteochondrosis of the spine.

It has a pronounced effect on the nervous system - it is used to treat neurosis, insomnia, epilepsy, psoriasis.

Increases the protective functions of the whole organism.

The recommended course of treatment is 12 months. It is noticed that during the first 4-6 months the primary cleansing of the body occurs. Over the next 6 months of continuing the course of treatment with hellebore, the body gets rid of chronic diseases that “profited” from the previous years of life.

Application methods

1. Initial dose: 50 mg or a quarter of a mustard spoon (at the tip of a knife) of hellebore powder at night, pour 50 g of any boiled water (room temperature). If necessary, increase the dose after 15 days to 150 mg ( 1 /2 bitter spoons) and stick to this dosage.

Shake (stir) before use so that the sediment enters the body. Take once a day: in the morning, on an empty stomach, 1 hour before meals.

2. "Dry reception". Put 50 mg of hellebore powder in your mouth, drink warm water in the morning on an empty stomach 1-2 hours before meals 1 time per day.

The course of treatment is from 1 to 6 or 12 months. The duration of treatment depends on what a person wants: to lose weight, cleanse, improve the functioning of the liver, heart, etc. This method is recommended in most cases.

As a preventive measure, it is better to take hellebore in the form of monthly courses in spring and autumn.

3. 50 mg hellebore powder mixed with 1 /4 h. spoons of honey. Eat before going to bed at 22-23 o'clock. In the morning, at 7-8 o'clock, there will be an independent stool.

This method allows you to normalize the function of the nervous system, liver, contributes to the normalization of stool, cleansing the urinary tract from sand, cleanses the blood and treats skin diseases.

The course of treatment is from 1 to 6 or more months.

You can choose any of these methods. Hellebore can be taken along with other herbs.

But, hoping for a hellebore, do not forget about proper nutrition, movement, thinking, etc.

In medicine

In scientific medicine, Caucasian hellebore has long attracted attention as a medicinal raw material, especially roots. Hellebore has been clinically proven to be effective and is valued as a cardiac glycoside. Preparations are made from it: Leucocetin (Bulgaria) - activates the protective functions of the body; Boicil-forte (Romania) - an effective pain reliever, recommended for diseases of the joints; Corelborin K (USSR) - one of the strongest cardiac glycosides, surpasses many other drugs in its biological activity, is used for cardiovascular insufficiency II and III degree, strengthens the cardiovascular system, lengthens diastole, slows down the heart rate, increases vascular tone, increases diuresis and blood flow rate, and also has a powerful effect on the peripheral and central nervous system; "Gellipol" - with intra-abdominal injection into the tumor completely stops its growth, it is recommended as a radiosensitizer in radiation therapy of malignant tumors (experimental data). The Caucasian hellebore is also used as a dietary supplement - restoring metabolism, cleansing the body of toxins and various toxins.

Contraindications and side effects

The plant is poisonous, use in large doses (over 300 mg) can cause poisoning. An overdose can provoke severe poisoning, ringing in the ears, intense thirst and swelling of the throat, up to a decline in cardiac activity. During pregnancy and lactation, the use of hellebore is contraindicated. In addition, it is not prescribed for individual intolerance, in childhood and old age.

In cosmetology

On the basis of hellebore, Russian cosmetologists have made a cream-gel "Hellfrost" - one of the best safe for health products of the latest generation, recommended for body shaping, its use allows you to quickly and effectively prevent problem areas, reduce the volume of subcutaneous fat, eliminate puffiness, achieve visible improvement in body contours. In addition, Hellebore helps to eliminate toxins through the skin, enhances metabolic processes, improves blood circulation, eliminates congestion in tissues, strengthens the walls of blood vessels, activates the protective properties of the skin, and restores cell functions that fade with age. The combination of Caucasian hellebore with vitanol significantly increases the penetrating power of the cream and enhances the effect of its active ingredients. When using the Hellebore cream, the biologically active substances that make up its composition actively affect local fat deposits and general obesity.

Classification

The Caucasian hellebore (lat. Helleborus caucasicus), also known as the Caucasian winter bug, is a species of the genus Winter house (lat. Helleborus), of the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). The genus includes about 20 species, distributed mainly in deciduous forests in southern Europe, the Mediterranean, and Western Asia. In the former USSR, 5 species are found (Ukraine and the Caucasus). The Latin name of the genus comes from the Greek words "elao" and "bora", which emphasize the strong, toxic effect of the cardiac glycosides contained in it, and the name of the Russian name of the genus "halloween" was given by Academician P. S. Pallas, who studied the flora of Russia at the end of the XVIII century marveled at the endurance of this plant.

Botanical description

Perennial, evergreen, herbaceous plant 25-50 cm tall. The rhizome is horizontal, short, with numerous long, cord-like dark brown roots. Stems solitary, slightly leafy, branching in the upper part. Basal leaves (3-9 cm wide) are solitary, long-petiolate, rounded kidney-shaped in outline, palmately dissected to the base with a serrated edge, dark green, lighter below, slightly pubescent at a young age; stem - including 1-3 sessile, much smaller and less dissected. The flowers are large, regular, including 1-3 (5-8 cm in diameter), located at the top of the stem. Perianth simple, of 5 petaloid, broadly ovate white-green, yellow-green, light-yellow, greenish-brown leaves (20-40 mm long), remaining with fruits. Stamens numerous, pistils 3-10, ovary superior. The formula of the Caucasian hellebore flower is *O5T∞P3…10. Fruit of 3-5 (10) leathery leaflets not fused when mature. Blooms in December-April, depending on the height of growth above sea level.

Spreading

A typical plant of the foothills of the Caucasus. It occurs in the southwestern regions of the Krasnodar Territory (Adygea), less often in the more eastern regions of the North Caucasus. Prefers a temperate and cool climate, humid and semi-shady places, grows in oak, beech and fir-spruce forests, rising up to 1000 meters above sea level. Locals call the Caucasian hellebore "forest peony" for the marvelous beauty of the flowers that appear in late February - early March. The plant needs protection, its reserves as medicinal raw materials are greatly reduced, as they are intensively exterminated by the population.

Procurement of raw materials

For medicinal purposes, a rhizome with hellebore roots is used. Harvesting of raw materials is carried out in the fall. The rhizomes are dug up, cleaned from the ground, the aerial part and damaged parts of the roots are removed, washed in cold water. Dry outdoors in the shade, can be dried in a well-ventilated room or in dryers at a temperature not exceeding 45°C. The color of raw materials (dried rhizomes) is dark brown, at the break - cream. The taste is bitter-burning, the smell is unpleasant. Store raw materials for 2 years in a dark, well-ventilated place. You need to work with fresh raw materials in a respirator, since fresh roots emit harmful substances that can cause headaches.

Chemical composition

The roots and rhizomes of the Caucasian hellebore contain cardiac glycoside desglucogellebrin (corelborin K), fatty and essential oil. In addition, the roots and leaves contain steroidal saponins, and its hydrolysis yielded smilagenin.

Pharmacological properties

The Caucasian hellebore has a pronounced cardiotonic effect, improves heart function and normalizes the circulatory system as a whole, as well as a blood-purifying property, increases the immune activity of the body, the protective functions of the blood and activates hematopoiesis. In addition, hellebore has a diuretic, laxative, powerful antispasmodic, choleretic and antiviral effect, helps to cleanse the body of toxins, toxins, radioactive elements, heavy metals and normalize almost all of its functions and metabolism.

Application in traditional medicine

The use of Caucasian hellebore in folk medicine has a long tradition; in terms of healing properties, it ranks second after ginseng. Since ancient times, hellebore has traditionally been used in healing for healing and cleansing the body, expelling bile, as an antiviral agent. One of the main properties of the Caucasian hellebore roots is that due to the complete cleansing of the body and the restoration of metabolism, its work is normalized, which leads to getting rid of many ailments and significant weight loss. It is this property that the Caucasian hellebore is now most famous for, which is often called "grass for weight loss." Hellebore preparations have an excellent effect on the joints, they are quite effective in the treatment of osteochondrosis. In addition, hellebore is used in the treatment of diseases associated with disruption of the cardiovascular system and gastrointestinal tract (gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis), as well as psoriasis. Hellebore preparations are considered effective in the treatment of epilepsy. Due to its diuretic and laxative action, hellebore is indicated for cleansing the intestines, it effectively removes sand and small stones from the urinary tract, normalizes metabolism, and the laxative effect causes getting rid of excess fluid and swelling. In folk medicine, hellebore root boiled in vinegar is used externally for hair loss, dandruff, and for washing purulent wounds.

Historical reference

People knew about the healing properties of hellebore in ancient times. This plant was written about in Christian literature by Avicenna - "Medicines", Sedir - "Magic Plants", as well as in ancient Armenian and ancient Arabic sources. In Russia, hellebore was harvested for export as early as the 17th century.

For the first time, scientific medicine drew attention to the cardiotonic properties of hellebore in the second half of the 19th century. Well-known Russian doctors (S.P. Botkin under the direction of I.L. Pavlov, V.I. Dybkovsky and K. Dobushinsky) were engaged in the study of hellebore, who found that hellebore tincture has a beneficial effect on the cardiovascular system, and Professor N.Ya. . Chistovich found out that the strong effect of hellebore on the heart is associated with cardiac glycosides. In the middle of the 20th century, it was proved that Caucasian hellebore, due to the content of glycosides, steroidal saponins, oils in its roots, has a beneficial effect on the activity of the heart as a stimulant. Bulgarian scientists have found that hellebore glycosides have a calming effect on the body, while German and Romanian scientists have confirmed its diuretic and antiviral properties, as well as the ability to delay the development of tumors. In 1949, employees of the Kharkiv Research Chemical-Pharmaceutical Institute D. G. Kolesnikov and M. Ya. Trop became interested in hellebore, who isolated the glycoside corelborin K from the Caucasian hellebore, and the glycoside corelborin P from a similar type of hellebore blushing.

Currently, Caucasian hellebore is a unique, well-studied plant, widely known throughout the world for its healing properties. It has become another alternative to official medicine in its ability to help the human body and has already helped thousands of people restore their health, find a good mood, joy of life and confidence that they can handle any illness. But in recent years, many articles have appeared about its dangers associated with toxicity. Indeed, hellebore is a poisonous plant, cardiac glycosides in its composition at high doses can cause a toxic effect. However, according to most researchers, hellebore, even with strong single overdoses, is not able to harm the body. After all, Paracelsus wrote that “everything in nature is poison, nothing is devoid of poison, but the matter is only in doses.” If you approach the use of Caucasian hellebore reasonably, observing the dosage and rules of administration, then it will only give a healing effect.

Hellebore: varieties, properties, methods of application, dosage, contraindications and recipes

plant description

Hellebore is a fairly small genus of the buttercup family, which has about 10 - 20 species. This low perennial plant (its height rarely exceeds 50 cm) has a beautiful bush shape and dense dark green leaves. The hellebore flower has a diameter of 4 - 6 cm.

The plant got its name due to the fact that it is not afraid of frost and snow (for example, the flowering time of hellebore coincides with light spring frosts).

An important feature of hellebore is their need for forest soil, which is the ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and beneficial microorganisms.

Where does hellebore grow?

Collection and storage

For therapeutic purposes, the underground part of the hellebore is used, namely the roots and rhizomes, the harvesting of which begins in early autumn (immediately after shedding the seeds).

The dug out hellebore roots are cleaned of damaged or rotten raw materials, while the aerial part of the plant is to be removed (leaves and flowers are cut off with a knife). The roots are thoroughly washed in cold water, after which culling is carried out again, during which thick and large roots are cut into strips 0.5 cm thick, which ensures uniform drying of the raw material.

The roots are dried under a canopy (it is important that the place for drying the raw materials is well ventilated). In addition, it is possible to dry the raw materials in special ovens or dryers, the temperature in which should not exceed 40 degrees (otherwise the glycosides contained in the raw materials will be destroyed).

Properly dried raw materials are distinguished by a brownish outer color and a light cream color at the break. Hellebore root has an unpleasant odor and a bitter taste. Dried raw materials are stored in tightly closed glass containers or in bags made of natural material. Shelf life is three years.

Hellebore varieties

It should be noted that all types of hellebore are very similar in their appearance, as well as properties and contraindications for use.

In medical practice, three varieties of hellebore are mainly used:
1. Black.
2. Blushing.
3. Caucasian.

All three types of hellebore are extremely poisonous, therefore, they require the most careful use, strict adherence to doses and mandatory medical advice.

Hellebore black

This type of hellebore has a black rhizome (hence the name of the species). The black hellebore is distinguished by a short stem with a purple tint and white (sometimes yellow) flowers, 6–8 cm in diameter. It grows in deciduous forests in southern and central Europe.

The action of black hellebore:

  • stimulation of cardiac activity;
  • increased gastrointestinal motility and secretion of digestive enzymes;
  • strengthening the function of the thyroid gland;
  • normalization of the general metabolism;
  • normalization of blood pressure;
  • cleansing the body of toxins, toxins, radionuclides;
  • increase in the body's immune activity.

With long-term use of black hellebore, there is a positive trend in the treatment of chronic diseases, since this plant has the ability to regenerate tissues, purify the blood, remove various decay products from the body (the latter are often one of the reasons for the deterioration of health).

Hellebore black is used in the treatment of the following pathologies:

  • myoma;
  • hypertension;
  • chronic inflammation of the ovaries;
  • gastritis;
  • duodenal ulcer;
  • osteochondrosis;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • urolithiasis disease;
  • pyelonephritis;
  • epilepsy;
  • amnesia;
  • decreased vision and hearing;
  • sinusitis;
  • haemorrhoids;
  • cardiovascular failure.

Infusion for cancer
0.5 tsp crushed hellebore root bark pour two cups of boiling water. The remedy is infused for at least two hours, filtered and consumed in a tablespoon three times a day, for 30 days. If necessary, you can repeat the course of treatment, but between courses should be a two-week break.

Infusion for epilepsy
10 g of hellebore roots are poured into 250 ml of water and infused for 12 hours. The infusion is taken warm, 1 tsp. twice a day.

Hellebore blushing

This perennial plant with a short horizontal rhizome is common in the Western part of the Caucasus, in the Eastern Transcaucasia and in the southwestern part of Ukraine.

The roots and rhizomes of this type of hellebore contain the glycoside corelborin, as well as other cardiac glycosides. Therefore, its preparations are indicated for circulatory disorders of the second and third degree (especially if you need to get a quick and fairly long-term effect).
The action of hellebore reddening:

  • normalization of metabolism;
  • regulation of blood pressure;
  • decrease in sugar levels;
  • cleansing the body of toxins;
  • promoting the resorption of both nodes and cysts directly in the thyroid gland;
  • inhibition of cancer cell growth;
  • removal of sand and salt from the kidneys and urinary tract;
  • obstruction of stagnation of bile;
  • prevention of the formation of stones in the gall;
  • headache relief;
  • liquefaction of sputum and promoting its discharge;
  • restoration of water-salt balance;
  • stimulation of immunity;
  • normalization of blood circulation.

Hellebore blushing is used in the treatment of the following conditions:

  • obesity;
  • diabetes;
  • hypertension;
  • pyelonephritis;
  • urolithiasis disease;
  • epilepsy;
  • headache;
  • respiratory system;
  • joint diseases;
  • oncological diseases;
  • infertility;
  • haemorrhoids;
  • neuroses;
  • insomnia;
  • toothache.

Infusion for hard-to-heal wounds
1 tsp hellebore powder should be poured with a liter of boiled water. The agent is infused for 4 hours, after which it can be washed with festering and sluggishly healing wounds. Also, this recipe stimulates hair growth on the head and eliminates dandruff.

Hellebore Caucasian

This type of hellebore grows in the Caucasus and Georgia, as well as in the southwestern part of the Krasnodar Territory. Places of growth - oak, beech, fir and spruce forests.

The height of this perennial evergreen plant reaches 25 - 50 cm. The rhizome of the Caucasian hellebore is short and has a dark brown color.

The action of hellebore Caucasian:

  • normalization of metabolism;
  • elimination of puffiness of various origins;
  • lowering the concentration of sugar in the blood;
  • lowering blood pressure;
  • elimination of symptoms of menopause;
  • cleansing the genitourinary system;
  • calming the nervous system;
  • elimination of inflammation;
  • removal of sand and salt from the urinary tract, as well as the kidneys.

Often, the cause of many diseases is precisely the clogging of the intestines, the walls of which over time become overgrown with various unprocessed substances that block the normal passage of food through it. Intestinal slagging negatively affects the functioning of the body as a whole.

It is hellebore that removes toxins, toxins and free radicals from the body, thanks to which excess weight “leaves”, fatigue disappears, and breathing becomes easier. Regular intake of Caucasian hellebore preparations helps to cure many diseases.

Caucasian hellebore (similar to black and reddening) has diuretic and laxative properties, therefore it is indicated in the treatment of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and the genitourinary system.

It is this type of hellebore, which will be discussed later, that is most often used in folk and official medicine.

How to drink hellebore preparations?

The course of treatment with hellebore preparations is designed for one year, while during treatment a gradual increase in dosage is shown, and then its decrease. After six months of taking, you should take a break for one month, after which the hellebore begins to be taken again with a minimum dose, which subsequently increases.

A six-month course of treatment is possible, which is prophylactic and immunomodulatory in nature - after all, hellebore, effectively cleansing the intestines, normalizes its functioning, improving the work of the whole organism as a whole.

Important! The dosage of hellebore preparations, as well as the regimen, is prescribed exclusively by a doctor after a medical examination and anamnesis.

A small dose (of the order of 50-100 mg per day) is indicated for people who have recently had a serious illness (it could be a stroke or heart attack), as well as for patients at the initial stage of hypertension.

With the systematic intake of hellebore in a dose not exceeding 150 mg per day, sand and stones will come out in two to three months.

A safe daily dose is 100-200 mg. The indicated dose is taken once a day - in the morning one hour before meals. Accurately dosed hellebore powder is sprinkled on the tongue and washed down with water.

The scheme of the annual course of treatment with hellebore
The initial dose is 50 mg (or one scoop) of hellebore powder. Further, every 10 days, the dose is increased by 50 mg until it reaches 200 mg per day (or 6 scoops). In this dosage, the drug is taken for six months.

Important! In intestinal disorders, the dose should be reduced to one or two scoops (this dosage is observed until the stool normalizes).

After six months, a monthly break is made, after which hellebore is taken again from the minimum daily dose, that is, from 50 mg (gradually the dose increases to 200 mg per day).

Children from 7 to 14 years old need to reduce the dosage by 2.5 times!

Important! Deviation from the above dosages is strictly prohibited, as it can lead to poisoning.

Ways to use hellebore

It is mainly used as compresses or washes. Internal reception is possible when combined with infusions or decoctions from herbal preparations.

8 g of dried hellebore roots brew a glass of boiling water. The infusion is wrapped and infused for 2 hours, and then filtered. Sore spots are treated with this infusion twice a day.

It is mainly used as a means to stimulate hair growth.

50 g of dry hellebore rhizomes should be boiled in a glass of wine vinegar (the volume of liquid should evaporate by half), then strain and add the strained infusion of marshmallow root to the mixture (25 g of raw material is poured into 200 ml of cold water and infused for an hour). It is recommended to rub the resulting mixture twice a day on bald spots and places of intense hair loss.

Hellebore Oil

  • lipid metabolism disorder;
  • obesity;
  • accumulation of metabolic products;
  • joint diseases;
  • slagging of the body;
  • oncological diseases;
  • decreased immunity;
  • diseases of the liver and gall;

Externally, the oil is used in the treatment of rhinitis and sinusitis: for example, the oil is dripped into the nose 4-5 drops twice a day, until the symptoms of the disease are eliminated. Children over the age of 7 years need to reduce the dosage by 2 times (the nose is dripped once a day).

In addition, hellebore oil can be used as a rub for joint pain. In such cases, a 10-day course of oil treatment is indicated, which is rubbed into problem areas.

Hellebore in fiber

Special attention deserves a dietary supplement, the components of which are hellebore and fiber. Hellebore in fiber helps to maintain the balance of all metabolic processes occurring in the body. A wide range of applications of this supplement, and its effectiveness, are due to the presence of components that act not on a specific disease, but directly on homeostasis.

The properties of hellebore were described above, so let's dwell in more detail on such a component of the supplement as fiber.

It is the fiber that enters the body with natural plant foods that are those dietary fibers that play an important role in the process of maintaining the normal functioning of the entire digestive tract. The fact is that dietary fiber is not digested, and therefore helps to maintain the tone and, accordingly, the motility of the digestive tract. In addition, such fibers adsorb toxins, thereby preventing their absorption.

Supplement action:
1. Normalization of metabolism, which leads to the loss of excess weight.
2. Normalization of bowel function (first of all, we are talking about eliminating constipation).
3. Prevention of stagnation of bile, which, firstly, prevents the formation of stones directly in the gallbladder, and secondly, it helps to remove various small stones from both the kidneys and the urinary tract.
4. Optimizing heart function by increasing blood flow to the heart muscle.
5. Normalization of the nervous system, which has a positive effect on sleep, performance and psycho-emotional state of a person.
6. Stimulation of the immune system (for example, hellebore in fiber increases nonspecific resistance to various infectious diseases).
7. Removal of harmful substances, including toxins, radionuclides, etc.

Reception scheme:
1. 1 - 10 days - 0.5 tsp each
2. 10 - 20 day - 1 tsp. without top.
3. 20 - 30 day - 1 tsp. with top.
4. 30 - 40 day - 1 tsp. with top and another 0.5 tsp.
5. 40 - 50 day - 1 tsp. with top and 1 more tsp. without top.
6. 50 - 60 day - 1 tbsp. without top.
7. Day 60 - up to 6 months - 1 tbsp. without top.

After six months of taking hellebore with fiber, you need to take a break for one month, after which the regimen is repeated. The general course of treatment is one year.

Application Features:

  • The plant is poisonous, so a necessary condition for the use of hellebore in fiber is strict adherence to the dosage and regimen.
  • While taking this dietary supplement, it is recommended to include foods rich in potassium and calcium in the diet.
  • During the course of fiber intake, you should drink at least 1.5 - 2 liters of fluid per day.

For a one-year course of treatment, 12 jars of hellebore in fiber, 300 g each, will be required.

Hellebore and alcohol

Taking hellebore does not imply a categorical refusal to drink alcohol. But it is still desirable not to combine treatment with the use of hellebore preparations, and alcohol. The thing is that alcoholic beverages (like cigarettes and coffee) are a burden on the heart, and the glycosides that make up the plant can greatly increase it.

Love and take care of yourself, in order for the use of the drug to have only a positive effect, be sure to consult a doctor, weigh all the positive and negative points, and clearly adhere to the treatment plan and taking the drug. Despite the wide range of healing functions and the unique composition of the plant, many doctors are very critical of its use.

Along with ginseng, hellebore is distinguished by an extraordinary reaction of the human body to it. Basically, it is more pronounced on the part of the cardiovascular and nervous system. Aesculapius do not have a common opinion on the appropriateness of its use.

Many of them believe that Hellebore consumption can cause so-called "lazy gut" syndrome- in which the gastrointestinal tract disrupts its work, the absorption of nutrients, vitamins, microelements worsens. In addition, modern science has not yet fully studied this "green doctor" and the degree of positive effect on the body.

Never tried it myself. Hellebore was popular about 20 years ago, many friends really lost weight with it. However, when it turned out to be a poisonous plant, its popularity plummeted.

Natalia

The hellebore is a wonderful plant!!! It's just important to take it right. Any medicinal plant in case of an overdose can be harmful, remember this !!!

Kate

I did not dare to take it inside, having read all sorts of bad things on the Internet, however, I brew and take for rinsing, both hair and mouth. A wonderful tool. The hair became much thicker, and the gums stopped bleeding, the bad breath disappeared. Now I sit and think, why not try drinking it for weight loss?!

Lera

Follow the recipe and you'll be fine. I use hellebore to cleanse the body, the intestines are working properly, swelling and bags under the eyes have disappeared. I do not observe any unpleasant consequences, although I have been taking it for about six months. In total, she lost about 12 kilograms without additional physical activity and diets.

Karina

Hellebore affects everyone very individually. It is difficult to say in advance whether this action is harmful or beneficial. From personal experience I can say that it helps with osteochondrosis, and quite effectively. But my friend, who drank according to the same scheme, unfortunately, did not help anything, only caused an upset stomach. But if anyone wants to try, I give an application option: the first ten days, one teaspoon of water infusion, the next ten days, two, and so on, up to 4 teaspoons. Then follow this dose for six months. Then, according to the ten-day scheme, again reduce the dosage to one. I've been on this for about a year now.

Raisa Dmitrievna

I bought myself a fiber with hellebore. Well, what can I say? The smell is specific, the taste too, but in principle it is normal. As for me, it is very good for the stomach, constipation has ceased to torment, heaviness in the stomach has disappeared. Everything is fine!

Dasha

  • Leaves.
  • Fruit.

The negative impact on the heart is felt by people with coronary disease, and they may not know about its existence. This condition is a contraindication for the use of Caucasian hellebore, as well as cholelithiasis, endocarditis, pregnancy and lactation, as well as children under 14 years of age. Among the side effects of hellebore Caucasian:

  • heart rhythm disturbances;
  • diarrhea;
  • intestinal inflammation;
  • increased diuresis;
  • insomnia;
  • lack of appetite.

Reviews of doctors indicate a change in urine under the influence of hellebore - it becomes thicker, concentrated, acquires a fetid odor.

Useful and harmful properties of Caucasian hellebore appear depending on the dosages used, as well as compliance with safety measures before use. For example, a preliminary examination for the presence of gallstones or kidney stones. The type of plant that is used for treatment also plays a role. The hellebore reddening (purple) has a greater toxicity due to the increased concentration of glycosides, but the eastern hellebore does not have special medicinal properties at all and is grown as an ornamental plant.

Doctors describe cases of hellebore poisoning. Overdose manifests itself:

  • nausea, vomiting;
  • diarrhea
  • disturbances of consciousness;
  • delirium;
  • an increase in body temperature;
  • tachycardia.

In the event of such symptoms, taking drugs from the plant should be urgently stopped, call an ambulance, perform a gastric lavage and take activated charcoal.

The Caucasian hellebore herb has specific abilities to restore the work of the human body. She can completely cleanse the body of toxins and toxins, rejuvenate and tone it, but only if the application is moderate, correct and regular.

Hellebore has long been used in

traditional medicine

as a cardiac and diuretic, due to the ability of the plant to correct serotonin metabolism. About how to take hellebore preparations correctly so as not to harm

health

At what diseases and in what dosage - will be discussed further.

plant description

Most species of this plant grow in southern and central Europe, in Asia Minor, as well as in the Caucasus and the Carpathians. Hellebore grows on the edges of broad-leaved forests, on sunny glades and mountain slopes, as well as on stony screes and in river valleys.

In medical practice, three varieties of hellebore are mainly used:1. Black.

2. Blushing.

  • stimulation of cardiac activity;
  • increased gastrointestinal motility and secretion of digestive enzymes;
  • strengthening the function of the thyroid gland;
  • normalization of the general metabolism;
  • normalization of blood pressure;
  • cleansing the body of toxins, toxins, radionuclides;

  • myoma;
  • hypertension;
  • gastritis;
  • duodenal ulcer;
  • osteochondrosis;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • urolithiasis disease;
  • pyelonephritis;
  • epilepsy;
  • amnesia;
  • decreased vision and hearing;
  • sinusitis;
  • haemorrhoids;
  • cardiovascular failure.

Infusion for cancer 0.5 tsp crushed hellebore root bark pour two cups of boiling water. The remedy is infused for at least two hours, filtered and consumed in a tablespoon three times a day, for 30 days. If necessary, you can repeat the course of treatment, but between courses should be a two-week break.

Infusion for epilepsy 10 g of hellebore roots are poured into 250 ml of water and infused for 12 hours.

  • normalization of metabolism;
  • regulation of blood pressure;
  • decrease in sugar levels;
  • cleansing the body of toxins;
  • promoting the resorption of both nodes and cysts directly in the thyroid gland;
  • inhibition of cancer cell growth;
  • removal of sand and salt from the kidneys and urinary tract;
  • obstruction of stagnation of bile;
  • prevention of the formation of stones in the gall;
  • headache relief;
  • liquefaction of sputum and promoting its discharge;
  • restoration of water-salt balance;
  • stimulation of immunity;
  • normalization of blood circulation.

Hellebore blushing is used in the treatment of the following conditions:

  • obesity;
  • diabetes;
  • hypertension;
  • pyelonephritis;
  • urolithiasis disease;
  • epilepsy;
  • headache;
  • respiratory system;
  • joint diseases;
  • oncological diseases;
  • infertility;
  • haemorrhoids;
  • neuroses;
  • insomnia;
  • toothache.

Infusion for hard-to-heal wounds 1 tsp hellebore powder should be poured with a liter of boiled water.

  • normalization of metabolism;
  • elimination of puffiness of various origins;
  • lowering the concentration of sugar in the blood;
  • lowering blood pressure;
  • elimination of symptoms of menopause;
  • cleansing the genitourinary system;
  • calming the nervous system;
  • elimination of inflammation;

So, with hardened fistulas, lotions and powder from hellebore contribute to the opening of hardening. In addition, a kind of wick can be made from the root of the plant, which is inserted into the fistula and left for several days, after which the wick is removed along with hardening.

The analgesic and antispasmodic properties of hellebore are widely used in the treatment of joints, migraines, and paralysis.

The acetic decoction of the plant helps to eliminate tinnitus (it is enough to drop a few drops of the decoction into each ear) and strengthen hearing in general, while using the powder you can relieve toothache (the gums are rubbed with hellebore powder and the mouth is rinsed).

Hellebore preparations strengthen vision, give it sharpness (hellebore is often included in eye medicines).

The plant is also useful in urolithiasis, as it removes bile, mucus, sand and stones from the body.

A six-month course of treatment is possible, which is prophylactic and immunomodulatory in nature - after all, hellebore, effectively cleansing the intestines, normalizes its functioning, improving the functioning of the whole organism as a whole.

Dosage

The scheme of the annual course of treatment with hellebore The initial dose is 50 mg (or one scoop) of hellebore powder.

Important! When hellebore oil is taken orally, there may be a decrease in appetite.

Supplement action:1.

Reception scheme:1. 1 - 10 days - 0.5 tsp each

2. 10 - 20 day - 1 tsp. without top.

3. 20 - 30 day - 1 tsp. with top.

4. 30 - 40 day - 1 tsp. with top and another 0.5 tsp.

5. 40 - 50 day - 1 tsp. with top and 1 more tsp. without top.

6. 50 - 60 day - 1 tbsp. without top.

Contraindications to the use of hellebore Hellebore preparations are contraindicated in:

  • individual intolerance;
  • pregnancy;
  • myocardial infarction;
  • breastfeeding;
  • hypersensitivity to glycosides;
  • ischemia;
  • endocarditis;
  • the presence of large (about 7 cm or more) gallstones;
  • atrioventricular blockade;
  • extrasystolic arrhythmia;
  • paroxysmal tachycardia.

In addition, hellebore should not be taken by the elderly and children under 7 years of age.
Hellebore and pregnancy

Hellebore preparations are contraindicated for both pregnant and lactating mothers in view of the fact that glycosides, which enhance serotonin metabolism, have an adverse effect on

ovulation

and development

In addition, taking hellebore can provoke

or disrupt the process of normal development of the fetus (especially in the early stages

pregnancy

Side effects

Important! Uncontrolled intake of hellebore preparations can provoke poisoning, which, in turn, can lead to

And in the worst case - to death!

hellebore poisoning

Hellebore is a poisonous plant, an overdose of which can lead to poisoning. In this case, poisoning can be triggered by a single dose of a large dose or prolonged use of small doses.

activated carbon

What will help absorb the hellebore remaining in the digestive tract.

Compliance with the dosage and rules for taking hellebore preparations will help prevent poisoning!

Hellebore and alcohol

Taking hellebore does not imply a categorical refusal to drink alcohol. But it is still desirable not to combine treatment with the use of hellebore preparations, and alcohol. The thing is that alcoholic beverages (like cigarettes and

) are a burden for the heart, and the glycosides that make up the plant can multiply it.

Finally, remember that hellebore is an excellent detoxifier, and alcohol is known to contain these harmful compounds in excess. Therefore, if the goal of taking hellebore preparations is to cleanse the body, then fatty foods, as well as alcohol, smoking and excessive coffee consumption, should be abandoned.
