“Likewise, the Spirit strengthens us in our weaknesses; for we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings inexpressible”

Let's try to figure out what the apostle Paul is talking about here.

Sometimes we pray more emotionally than with thoughtful words. This is the cry of the heart! But it happens that a person cries or experiences excitement and worries inside... He needs the help of the Lord, but he does not know what exactly to ask intensely... He kneels down and calls to the Creator! Man is ready to open his soul before the Lord!!! Emotions overwhelm him, it’s even difficult to speak ... and even more so to find the right words ...

There are also believers who have learned to trust God. They no longer ask the Creator for something specific, but pray that His will be done in their lives! Including that He solve some specific problem of their life, as He pleases ... Based on their experience, such believers know that their personal wishes may not lead to the best for themselves and those around them, and therefore they entrust everything into the hands of the Loving God.

And the Holy Spirit reinforces these believers, He knows our feelings and needs. Spirit knows what is best for us, what is in accordance with the will of God! He helps us by acting within us, directing our thoughts, repentance and desires to the Lord...

Rome. 8:27 "The tester hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints at will God's"

Here it is even more clearly seen that the Spirit, acting in our heart the more he intercedes for the believers, knowing will God's about us. In Holy Scripture, the result of the influence of the Holy Spirit on a person is called “spirituality” ... And prayer with the help of the Holy Spirit is called “prayer by the (Holy) Spirit” more than once in the New Testament (see the texts of Jude 20, Eph. 6:18, analyzed in the material )

Let's look at how Jesus Christ spoke about the Holy Spirit:

John. 14:16 “And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Comforter (Intercessor) may it be with you forever”

In the original text, the word translated into Russian as the Comforter is represented by the Greek word “Parakletos” - having a translation intercessor, intercessor.

As you can see, in Rome. 8:26,27 The Holy Spirit is described as an intercessor, which Jesus foretold.

As for the words " sighs unspeakable"from verse 26 - other possible translations are groans inexpressible, inexpressible. These colorful epithets describe in symbolic allegorical language the experiences and efforts of the Holy Spirit in intercessory ministry in the hearts of believers.

Of course, here we are NOT talking about prayer in other tongues, this is not traced at all from the context of the chapter, and even more so of the entire New Testament, however, as well as the Old. That is, this does not mean that if we deliberately pray in an incomprehensible language, then the Holy Spirit will immediately come to the rescue in order to convey from us to God what He pleases with "sighs that cannot be expressed"...

Brief prayers

Every Orthodox Christian is obliged to pray daily, morning and evening, before eating and after eating food, before and after any work (for example: before teaching and after teaching, etc.).

This prayer is called the initial prayer, because we say it before all prayers, at the beginning of prayers.

Pharisee and publican in the temple at prayer

This prayer is the publican (tax collector), who repented of his sins and received forgiveness. It is taken from the parable of the Savior, which He once told people for their admonition. Here is the parable. Two people entered the temple to pray. One of them was a Pharisee, and the other was a publican. The Pharisee stood in front of everyone and prayed to God like this: I thank You, God, that I am not such a sinner as that publican. I give a tenth of my property to the poor, I fast twice a week. And the publican, realizing himself a sinner, stood at the entrance to the temple and did not dare to raise his eyes to heaven. He hit himself in the chest and said: God, be merciful to me a sinner! Jesus Christ is the Son of God - the second Person of the Holy Trinity. As the Son of God, He is our true God, as are God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.

We call Him Jesus, that is savior because He saved us from sin and eternal death. For this, He, being the Son of God, dwelt in the immaculate Virgin Mary and, with the influx of the Holy Spirit, incarnated and made human by Her, that is, he took on a human body and soul - was born from the Blessed Virgin Mary, became the same person as we are, but only he was sinless - became a God-man. And instead of us suffering and being tormented for our sins, He, out of love for us sinners, suffered for us, died on the cross, and rose again on the third day, conquered sin and death, and gave us eternal life.

Realizing our sinfulness and not relying on the power of our prayers, in this prayer we ask you to pray for us sinners, before our Savior, all the saints and the Mother of God, who has special grace to save us sinners by His intercession for us before His Son.

Lord Jesus Christ

Our Savior is called the Anointed One (Christ) because He fully had those gifts of the Holy Spirit, which in the Old Testament, through anointing, were received by kings, prophets and high priests.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Call Him Comforter because He comforts us in our sorrows and misfortunes, just as He comforted the apostles on the 10th day after the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven.

Call Him Spirit of truth, (as the Savior Himself called Him), because He, like the Holy Spirit, teaches everyone only one truth, truth, only that which is useful for us and serves for our salvation.

He is God, and He is everywhere and fills everything with Himself: ilk, everywhere present and fulfilling all. He, as the manager of the whole world, sees everything and, where necessary, gives. He is treasure of the good, that is, the keeper of all good deeds, the source of all the good that only we need to have.

We call the Holy Spirit life giver because everything in the world lives and moves by the Holy Spirit, that is, everything receives life from Him, and especially people receive from Him spiritual, holy and eternal life after the grave, being cleansed from their sins through Him.

If the Holy Spirit has such marvelous properties: He is everywhere, fills everything with His grace and gives life to everyone, then we turn to Him with the following requests: Come and settle in us, that is, constantly abide in us, as in your temple; cleanse us from all filth that is, sin, make us holy, worthy of Your presence in us, and save, Kind, our souls from sins and those punishments that are for sins, and through this grant us the Kingdom of Heaven.

it is called because the holy angels sing it, surrounding the throne of God in heaven. People who believe in Christ began to use it 400 years after the birth of Christ. There was a strong earthquake in Constantinople, from which houses and villages were destroyed. Frightened, Tsar Theodosius II and the people turned to God with a prayer. During this common prayer, one pious youth (boy) in front of everyone was lifted up to heaven by an invisible force, and then unharmed was lowered back to earth. He told the people around him that he heard in heaven how the holy angels sang: Holy God, holy Mighty, holy Immortal. The moved people, repeating this prayer, added: have mercy on us and the earthquake stopped.
