Hello friends! This is a review of a super smartphone. Yes, the UMI Super model is so ambitiously named. I would like to believe that the device was awarded the name for a reason, so the review will be as picky as possible.

The box of the device is rich - black and made of metal. The premium segment does not pull, but it definitely looks better than any cheap cartons. Inside the device itself, a USB Type-C cable and a charger with support for fast charging mode. Maybe that's why the block is so massive. And there is also an envelope with a paper clip and a book describing this miracle of technology in several languages. I didn’t have any films on the screen, but the Chinese sent a case. The design is creepy for me, it's good at least protects smart. The overlay is made of bending plastic, it's not silicone, the quality is C grade plus.

And now we will study the super-smartphone. The design hints at HTC, but there is no direct copying. A lot of metal, tangible weight, rather sharp edges. Such a big man's pipe. In general, it looks good. If you look closely, of course, there are flaws. For example, the card tray sits too deep. And the plastic panels on the top and bottom of the back are not ideally set. But objectively the assembly is not bad. Just not great.

The front panel is covered with tempered Gorilla glass, the edges are rounded (as without “2.5D”). Above is the speaker, camera and sensors, below is the circle of the indicator. There is no sensor under it, its task is to inform with 7 colors about the events and states of the smart. On-screen buttons with the correct layout: multitasking, home and back. At the zero position there is a button to hide the panel, it helps a lot in some applications.

On the right side placed the volume rocker and Power. The buttons are made of metal, with a good move and do not knock if you shake the smart.

On the left side there is a combined tray - we have a video on our channel on how to solve this problem. The design is rather flimsy, operator cards are used in the MicroSIM format. There is a surprise button next to the tray. Through the menu, you can hang up a call to any application on it.

At the top end there is a 3.5 mm jack, at the bottom there is a Type-C port, a call speaker and a main microphone.

Let's study the back. There are plastic panels at the top and bottom, antennas are located under them. Judging by the holes, which are only three on the back, Umi Super has a lot of microphones. The camera looks the most ordinary, below is a two-component flash and a circle of a fingerprint scanner.

Umi promises to trigger the scanner in 0.1-0.3 s, but in reality the device takes a little more than half a second. Which, in principle, is quite good. I have no questions about the accuracy of fingerprint recognition, the touch wakes up the smartphone and you don’t need to press anything else.

The screen is super good. Large diagonal - 5.5 inches - reasonable FullHD resolution, normal viewing angles and reliable color reproduction. The brightness is high, it is normally visible in the sun. Oh yes, there is a Miravision profile that allows you to customize the picture for yourself. The touch is moderately sensitive, there is an oleophobic coating, but it is not super.

And the iron here is also not super, rather just normal. Not at all a flagship, albeit a fresh chipset from MediaTek - Helio P10. The processor is 8-core, clocked at 2GHz. Graphic chip Mali T860. 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of built-in. Well, MicroSD cards up to 256 GB if that's not enough.

From theory to practice. In tests, the results are typical, that is, nothing outstanding. The system is nimble, everything is fine with the software too. This is the picture with games. Tanks at the minimum keep 35-50 fps, that is, they are quite playable, although more would be better. Asphalt 8 runs even at the maximum, but the picture is a little twitchy. In a good way, the schedule should be omitted. My favorite Smash Hit at maximum settings is smooth, there are no stutters.

Everything is fine with wireless modules: WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1. Navigation is working properly. Communication in LTE networks is supported, we can count on HSPA +. Speech is transmitted well, there are no problems with volume either.

The sound in the headphones seems to be good, but not some outstanding. The speaker is one, average in volume, without low frequencies. Vibra is pleasant.

The smartphone is equipped with a 4000 mAh non-removable battery. With such hardware and taking into account the presence of Doze in Marshmallow, you can count on two days with a medium-intensive load.

Cameras at Umi Super on a four. The main 13MP manufactured by Panasonic, the front GalaxyCore (i.e. from Samsung) at 5MP. The camera software migrated unchanged from the fourth Android, there are no particularly noteworthy chips in it. Under good conditions, the pictures are not bad. The focus is not fast, but accurate, the colors are sometimes naughty (the camera likes to turn yellow), the exposure is generally correct. You can shoot. But do not count on the quality of photo flagships. The front camera is suitable for video calls and selfies when the quality is not critical.

Well, software. Umi Super runs on Android 6.0 with minimal changes and a partially kitkat software package. And no Chinese is not installed. Lockscreen without surprises, the launcher is simple and fast. The multitasking menu is equipped with a button to clear the memory, notifications and settings are made in black. There are more togles than stock, but there is also no way to weed out unnecessary ones. UI Tuner turns on.

There is auto-update over the air, I did not notice any errors or oddities in the system.

Well, is this Umi super or not super? Not great, but a good smartphone. A good case in metal, the screen is good, the iron is sufficient for most tasks, and goodies like a scanner and super-buttons are pleasing. You can also shoot on the camera and the battery is healthy. But the price… $200 or even more is a bit much. Significantly more expensive than the same Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, almost the level of the Pro version with much stronger stuffing. Unless Android is almost pure and Marshmallow out of the box.

Today in the review is another smartphone from umi, namely the super model. Let's figure out what this time the manufacturer has deceived and whether it lives up to its name :) If you are interested, please, under the cat.

2. SIM card/memory card tray opener
3. Charger 5/7/9/12V (phone supports fast charging)
4.USB to USB type c cable
5. Papers

The body of the smartphone is made of metal, the assembly is good, the buttons do not ring, the SIM card tray does not stick out, etc. The phone is heavy (198g) and thick (9.9mm). Due to the fact that the smartphone case has a flat side edge, the phone does not lie very comfortably in the hand (although it will be fine in a large hand).

Dimensions and weight

Appearance

On the front side above the display is a proximity sensor, light sensor, speaker grill, front camera.
Under the display are the hardware menu keys, home, back. The home key works as an event indicator (6 colors) of the menu and back without backlighting and any designations.
The manufacturer claimed 7 colors of the event indicator

But it's actually not white.

and yellow is very similar to green. So that leaves 5 primary distinguishable colors.
You can set the indicator to blink constantly (both in standby mode and when using the device) in the selected color. For example, I set the color to blue.

In addition to hardware keys, there are virtual keys. In the settings you can choose which keys you want to use

Glad to have a choice :)
You can also reassign the hardware buttons (underlined with a red line on the screen), for example, move the back key to the left side, or leave it on the right. It is also convenient that everyone can customize the phone for themselves.

Right side volume keys and power key

On the left side is a combined microsim card tray - microsim card / memory card.
And a “smart” button (as the manufacturer called it), you can launch any application with it (selected in the settings). The name is loud, but in fact, the button is like a button. There is good :)

Top - 3.5mm headset jack.
The pinout of the connector is standard today - CTIA.

The sound in the headphones is good, you can feel the difference with smartphones costing $130, though I don’t know if the declared AW8738 chip is here or not.

Bottom
USB TYPE C connector with OTG support (did not check, nothing) microphone and two grilles, but one speaker (on the right),

The speaker is not very loud, but after twisting in the engineering menu it became normal.
But the quality of the speaker disappointed me, I expected better from a phone for 180 bucks. But here it is normal, low frequencies are not enough, the sound is flat.

Rear camera, dual LED flash, second microphone (for noise reduction) and fingerprint sensor.
The sensor works well, it always works the first time (maximum the second time). I programmed 2 different fingers, both fingers respond well. Now I realized that in my vernee thor the sensor does not work as it should, although it can be used)

Display
Installed IPS matrix with full hd resolution.
The display is bright, saturated, at the corners the image does not fade, is not inverted, there are no glare. I liked the display.
White color is neutral.
There is a miravision setting

The display does not have an air gap (OGS), gorilla glass 3 is used (according to the manufacturer), but the oleophobic coating is poor, prints are erased poorly. If the phone cost $100 it could be forgiven, but for $180 there should be good coverage.

The touchscreen is responsive with 5 touches.

autonomy
The manufacturer stated that there will be a battery from Sony with a capacity of 4000 mha.
Battery photo (not mine)

I have nothing to accurately check the capacity, so we’ll check it with a folk tester

As usual, the battery was deceived. I think that there is at best 3500mha, or even less.
The phone supports fast charging. Charges in 80 min. I noticed that when you put it on charge, it writes how much time is left before the end of the charge, accurate to the minute. This is the first smartphone that writes the truth, usually lying for 15-25 minutes. A trifle, but nice.
The battery lasts for 1 day of active use or 2 inactive.
Battery tests

In general, autonomy is average, it could have been better, and it would have been if they hadn’t cheated with the battery

Tests (antutu, epic citadel, and others)

46764 parrots are gaining antutu

The phone works quickly and smoothly. Asphalt 8 runs at max settings with no lag.

epic citadel

Navigation system
The phone supports GPS and Glonass
Screenshot on the street

On my sample, gps does not work well, although the forum does not seem to complain about its work.
I recorded the track, but as you can see from it, I walked through the houses :)

Wifi behind two brick walls catches like this

Supports 5 GHz frequency

Connection
Everything is fine with the quality of communication, the phone catches the network in the same way as the previous phones, for which I have no complaints about the connection. The interlocutor hears me well. The volume of the conversational speaker without a margin, you need to twist it in the engineering menu.
I liked the vibration here, powerful, quiet. This should be done on all phones.
Supported Frequencies

operating system
The smartphone has Android 6.0 installed. The system is clean, without any Chinese applications, decorations, etc. Double tap and other smart gestures are not yet available.

Camera
The main camera is 13MP with f/2.0 aperture.
The software on the camera is still damp and you have to use third-party applications. Although I do not think that this camera can be greatly improved programmatically.
Originals can be

Night photos

With flash from 2m

Front camera is rather weak

Video (filmed through open camera) since there is no autofocus in stock.
The original along with the photo, at the link above.

The $180 camera is rather weak, of course it can be improved programmatically, but I don’t really believe in it.
P.S. Only an update came, I'll check the camera in it and unsubscribe later. Maybe something has been corrected.

Conclusion
The smartphone does not live up to the name SUPER, there are still problems with the camera, and the battery was deceived.
Although judging by the reviews on 4pda, there are many owners who are satisfied with this smartphone.
In general, my job is to tell everything about the smartphone, and show it, and it's up to you to decide what to buy :)
The price with 40UmiSuper coupon is $179.

The arsenal of the Chinese company contains a wide range of smartphones of various price ranges. And although it is not officially represented on the Russian market, its models come from China already optimized for use on the territory of the Russian Federation.

We have recently tested the "modern smartphone for enthusiasts" - UMi Touch, which left a good impression due to the good ratio of filling and price. But this time, thanks to the Chinese online store GearBest.com, which has its own on our forum, the new flagship of the manufacturer with the "talking" name UMi Super got into the laboratory.

And this is no coincidence: the novelty is based on the eight-core MediaTek Helio P10 SoC, equipped with 4 GB of RAM, a 4,000 mAh battery from Sony and a Panasonic main camera. It's up to the small thing - to find out if she lives up to her immodest name.

It is worth noting here that there is some likelihood that this model will be officially sold in Russian stores. So, the more interesting it is to study it. First, let's look at the table of technical characteristics.

The use of a productive platform and a capacious battery has already been mentioned above. Now we can note the Sharp display with a high resolution, a good amount of main memory and an acceptable price.

But it is the 4 GB of RAM that attracts the most attention. Although this is no longer a rarity in this class, such a trend cannot but rejoice.

Packing and packaging UMi Super

UMi Super starts to amaze from the moment you pick up the box. Structurally, this is an ordinary box with a lid, and it seems that there can be nothing special here. However, the box is made of metal and at first it is really shocking.

The packaging is painted black, there is no design decoration. In the center of the lid, only the manufacturer's logo and the model name flaunt.

On the back side there is a sticker listing the technical characteristics of the device.

Inside, the smartphone itself immediately appears before us. It is packaged in a protective plastic bag and its display is protected by a shipping film.

The rest of the area is covered with a paper cover. Under it, in separate sections, the delivery set is laid out.

The set is absolutely standard, no additional accessories are provided.

The package includes:

  • Power adapter;
  • USB cable - USB Type-C;
  • Technical documentation;
  • A paperclip to remove the SIM tray.

In addition to the device itself, we were provided with an original plastic case for review, which shows the model of the smartphone.

It comes in a separate branded box.

The cover covers the back of the device and remains almost invisible due to transparency. It is firmly fixed on the case and protects well in everyday use, although it will most likely rebound if dropped.

The packaging pleased with the material of manufacture and quality. Each accessory is neatly stowed in its niche, nothing rattles or dangles. The first sensation is the thought, but did the flagship get to us? But no, the manufacturer simply decided to distinguish his model from the background of his opponents.

Good afternoon. Everyone in life has such a moment when you walk with the phone, you walk, and then it starts to slow down. And you are in a slight bewilderment: “How? He's only 5 years old!"

The requirements for the new phone were simple - powerful hardware that will last for several years, up-to-date technologies, a large battery, a bright display and an adequate price.

What can I say about buying … I'm happy as an elephant! Come under the cut, where you will see how I show off an objective review of all aspects of the phone. There will be a lot of unnecessary words in the text below, so for lovers of brevity - at the end of the review there will be a complete list of pros and cons for you. Let's start!

Equipment

The phone arrived in a large black metal box with the UMI logo embossed on the lid.

Included are: instructions, a clip to remove the SIM card tray, the phone itself, a charger with a fast charging function and a USB-Type C cable.

Box Expertise

The designer thought that if you take the phone as a gift, then such a box will look more elegant than the usual cardboard bar. And indeed it is. The box looks good. Only the inexperienced designer was unfamiliar with two words: " Post office".

The large metal planes of the packaging are very susceptible to warping and denting. I've seen photos where the box seems to have gone straight through hell... No - it seems that on it hell gone! But the box fulfilled its task - the phone remained safe and sound, and all thanks to the successful internal layout: the entire inner surface is made of foam rubber - the phone in such soft walls is protected even better than in cardboard boxes.

And one more thing: only it seems to me that these boxes are similar?

Appearance

I have no questions about the design of the phone. The front panel is completely covered with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3. The screen has narrow bezels, and the curved glass makes them visually even thinner.

The back panel and sides are made of high-quality aluminum. The main surfaces have a special treatment, due to which they become matte (they do not shine, as in my photos) and are rough, which is why the phone lies firmly in the hand. The edges are polished to a shine.

Plastic inserts at the top and bottom of the rear panel sit very organically, the color and texture are chosen so as not to stand out from the general background. There were no backlashes and creaks, the phone looks solid and reliable.

Design expertise

1) The front surface is completely made of glass - this is undoubtedly a plus. During a light rain, drops fall on the screen and you are not at all afraid that they can flow under the case and short-circuit something.
2) 2.5D glass is beautiful and pleasant to the touch(This is the only way I can describe it. You just have to touch it. Just like a sea pebble that the sea has turned). Only if the phone falls to the ground, then rest assured it will land on the domed display. No options.
3) Although no, there are options - it can land on aluminum ribs, and then the phone will have the same story as the box in which it was traveling. The fall will not break the functionality, but will leave a dent that can no longer be repaired. However, why the manufacturer chose metal as the main case material, I will explain later when discussing performance. Indeed, the aluminum case was chosen not only because of its beauty, but also because of its physical properties.
4) You won't be too surprised to learn that this design is not original and is already used on a bunch of other phones, right? However, that doesn't make it any worse.

Ergonomics

Dimensions: 15.0 x 7.5 x 0.85 cm. Weight: 198 g

Both in size and weight, it is clear that it must be used with two hands.

If you take it with one hand, you can see that the finger does not reach the other side of the screen (and I do not have the shortest fingers). This is taken into account by the firmware - the slider for answering an incoming call is located exactly in the middle of the screen so that it can be pulled both right-handed and left-handed. Otherwise, standard tools are not conducive to one-handed use. Even typing without third-party ergonomic keyboard apps is already a challenge.

The full potential of the phone is revealed as soon as it falls into the left hand - the fingers comfortably stand on all the control buttons, and the index finger touches the fingerprint sensor without any problems. And typing text on the big screen with your right hand is just a pleasure.

Location of elements

Let's move on to the location of the elements on the body:

1 - 3.5 mm audio output
2 - Light sensor
3 - Front camera (5 MP)
4 - Combined slot for 2 micro SIM cards
5 - "Smart" button
6 - Volume rocker
7 - Lock button
8 - Harlequin LED Notificator
9 - Microphone
10 - USB Type-C
11 - Speaker

All arrangements of elements are standard and very convenient.

On the back are: a fingerprint scanner, a dual LED flash and a 13 MP camera. All these elements are recessed into the case in order to protect them from scratches and other damage. A trifle - but nice.

Notification indicator

Original, beautiful notification indicator. Depending on the event, the color of the indicator changes. In fact, it has a full range of colors, but in the settings there are only a few basic ones to choose from. The indicator has good brightness, but at the same time, it does not blind when working with the phone.

Expert evaluation of the indicator + useful information about the hidden function of the phone

The indicator is a useful and cool thing. Here is the main conclusion. Now let's talk about the first days of operation.

As soon as the user takes the phone out of the box and turns it on, this indicator also starts. It shimmers with all the colors of the rainbow. Beautiful. But he doesn't turn off. He shines with his light bulb all day long.

I have already resigned myself and began to look for pluses in this situation - you always know where the phone is. But the meaning of this indicator was generally lost - it constantly glows, and when some important notification came, I simply stopped paying attention to it.

But I still got into the settings and saw the line " Harlequin LED Notification"(Russian LED indication "Harlequin"), went there, and there in the column" standby display" (Russian. Color in standby mode) is "rainbow". I chose " none"(Russian. Turn off), and now when there are no notifications, the phone is quietly lying to itself in the off state.

And now the most interesting. If you saw a colored luminous circle under the screen, would you think that it, by analogy with iPhones, is a button? I thought. And every time I clicked on this luminous circle, after a few seconds with no result, I understood everything, and sadness came over me.

Yes, I had to use the on-screen buttons. I was tormented by the question why the manufacturer was able to place an LED under the screen, but could not put the sensor there as well? Guys... he did.

I don't understand how a normal user should guess that indicator, the zones to the left and right of it are touch? To enable them, you need to go to " settings" => "buttons" => "enable physical buttons".

You can see the difference between the on-screen and physical buttons in the previous screenshots of the phone at the beginning of the review.

I will immediately answer a question that I myself only recently understood. These touch buttons were not made backlit only due to the fact that the phone is large and elegant female hands, holding a smartphone in one hand, could not reach the touch button on the other side. Therefore, the manufacturer made it possible to change the “menu” and “back” buttons in places. Personally, I am grateful that the Chinese did not bother with installing additional displays for buttons, with the ability to select an icon - this saved us a few dollars, and remembering that on the right is the “back” button is quite a feasible task for us.

smart button

Previously, it already appeared in the button layout under the number " 5 ".

(photo from internet)

On the left side of the phone is a small "smart" button. Its essence is simple - it launches one application. The application is selected from the list. The default is "Camera". And this is probably the best choice. When the camera is on, you can take pictures by pressing the volume buttons - yet the mechanical buttons are much more convenient to press than the touch screen.

In the locked state, this button does not work, so false clicks are excluded.

Also, holding the "smart" button turns on / off the silent mode. By the way, a very often used by me function.

Screen

The quality of the display is beyond praise. The phone received an excellent 5.5-inch display with Full-HD resolution - 1920x1080 pixels (but did not receive an oleophobic coating). The large screen is convenient for reading text and watching movies. A juicy, realistic picture retains colors even at critical tilt angles (although there is a slight inversion of white and black colors).

There is no air gap between the matrix and the glass - this solution glares much less in the light.

Also pleased with the boundaries of the brightness adjustment. The phone can take such a minimum brightness without any third-party programs that at night, in complete darkness, the screen will not blind. I often rest at night on the Internet, so for me this item stood out especially.

It's rare to find sunny days in autumn, but I did snatch one of them. The brightness of the display is no problem enough to keep the text on the screen readable even in direct sunlight.

Photo display at critical angles

Color inversion

An extremely useful thing, which I will write about now.

Somehow, while setting up the previous buttons, I began to poke into each menu item, and got to the bottom of this icon: “Inversion”. I pressed the button without much enthusiasm, expecting that the whole picture on the screen would simply appear in the negative. Well, yes, indeed, everything became negative. Well, what's the point if the blue color turns yellow ... wait a minute! The blue VK icon remained blue.

And then I realized that progress stepped forward. Many reputable companies make night themes for their applications - dark background, soft text color. This greatly reduces eye strain when reading in the dark. But there are a whole bunch of applications where the design style cannot be changed. Take the same browser - on the Internet it is customary to write black text on a white background without the ability to switch colors. And it is for such cases that programmers have created a function that inverts only white and black colors, without touching the rest.

Once I figured out this mode, I started taking a bunch of screenshots. I ran white applications and made them black. I had a lot of fun with the camera - the photos are simply magical. And then I opened the screenshots folder… In general, the image is inverted only for the user. For the phone, it remains the same as it was.

An illustrative example of the function. It is not without reason that it is placed in quick settings - this is really a running thing that I use every day.

Multitouch

The multi-touch test shows a maximum of 5 touches - this is enough for all modern applications without exception. The sensor itself is very accurate, without false positives and lags. In general, the manufacturer did everything to make the phone convenient to use, and for this we thank him very much.

Convenience is just the tip of the iceberg, we are going to the most important part of it.

Performance

Component analysis with AIDA 64

What will happen if you take an eight-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor with a frequency of 1.95 GHz and supplement this power 4 GB operatives?

AnTuTu benchmark and Geekbench give good results. But synthetic tests are a very conditional performance assessment. Let's take a better look at how the phone shows itself in action:

Gaming performance

Real Racing 3:

The flight is excellent. FPS (frames per second) in the race varies from 60 to 30. While watching replays, at some points there are drawdowns of up to 10-15 FPS. The gyroscope control works great.

World Of Tanks Blitz

Tanks go without problems. On medium settings, the phone consistently delivers FPS above 30 (top screenshot). On low settings, FPS stays around 47 (bottom screenshot).

Dungeon Hunter 5

FPS does not drop below 30. It plays smoothly and without any problems.

Asphalt 8

The game runs without any problems with an FPS of about 40-50. The gyroscope perfectly fulfills the control of the car.

As we can see, the phone runs all modern games. Of course, if we used the Mali-T880 video chip (which runs at 900 MHz), then the performance would be even higher, and some games would work at higher graphics settings, but in our case, the Mali-T860 chip (700 MHz) is all - still gives a very decent result, I would even say that for such money - excellent.

I paid special attention to games only because it performs with a bang with all the other tasks that the phone can load with. A powerful processor and 4 GB of RAM (I have so much on my computer now) do not leave any hint of lags and slowdowns either in the browser, or in instant messengers, or when watching a video - nowhere. Works very smart.

But still it is worth noting one more thing - heating. After some time of playing, especially if the phone is charging at that time, there is a noticeable heating of the back cover. The temperature feels like the water you use when taking a shower - 38 degrees. In other words, the lid is warm, but does not burn. And for this you can only thank the aluminum case. Indeed, if the hull were made of plastic, then every battle in tanks would end with smoke and the smell of a burned plastic solarium. Immediately, the aluminum case evenly distributes heat throughout the back cover, preventing overheating of the cores.

Battery

(this photo is not mine)

The UMI Super claims a battery for 4000 mAh. I could not measure its real volume, due to the lack of a USB tester, but I have accumulated real usage statistics.

As you can see from the graph (each division on the lower axis is 12 hours), the battery has a good energy capacity. It holds up well under load. one full day. During this time, I managed to surf the Internet, and play over the network via WiFi, stick to YouTube videos without turning off GPS and Bluetooth.

If you use the phone as an assistant - calls, instant messengers and searching for information on the Internet - then it will work in this rhythm 2 full days.

The phone also supports fast charging. When using the charger that comes with the kit, the phone charges from zero to 50% in 1 hour. Normal charging would take 2.5 hours.

Also convenient is the presence of a USB-Type C port. Now you don't need to think about which side you need to turn the plug to insert it into the phone - it is symmetrical.

Removable battery?

The manufacturer claims that the battery is non-removable. But thanks to the Internet and YouTube tutorials, anyone can solder their own quadcopter. What can we say about removing two plastic plugs and changing the battery (which is sold on aliexpress).

Firmware

The phone is running Android version 6.0. The firmware is clean and not cluttered with left Chinese applications.

It's nice to see that the manufacturer actively maintains its model, and regularly releases updates. The last one came yesterday.

Updates take place over the air without user intervention (you just need to click the "update" button).

The developer is actively working on the transition to a new firmware version, and according to an official statement, UMI Super will get an Android version 7.0 Already for Christmas!

Inner memory

The phone comes with 32 GB of internal memory from Samsung. 24.69 GB are available for use. Yes, I heard that this is a fast memory, that everything is written and read quickly. But not as much! Read speed - 175 Mb / s, write - 150 Mb / s! By the way, modern solid-state hard drives (SSD) develop such speed.

RAM is also purchased from Samsung. The speed of her work 6100 Mb/s.

Memory Expertise

The test numbers show that the phone has excellent modern memory. But, as for me, 32 GB in 2016 is already not enough (my music collection weighs 45 GB). And here you have to use the universal slot for SIM \ SD cards.

This slot accepts either 2 micro sim card, or 1 sim card and a micro SD card up to 256 GB. The slot is removed from the phone using a metal clip that must be inserted into the hole on the left side of the phone and pressed with a little effort.

Sound

The sound from the main speaker is very pleasant. There's a hint of bass, the mids sound good, and the highs are a little on the high side. But the speaker lacks volume. There were cases with me when they called me, but I simply did not hear the phone in my pocket, because it was lying with the speaker down, which was covered with a cloth.

The sound from the speaker is just as clear and just as quiet. In a noisy room or on the street, this creates significant problems when you simply cannot make out what is being said to you. I solved this problem using a headset (fortunately, I always hang it around my neck), but why not make the speaker sound louder initially? Craftsmen from w3bsit3-dns.com have already found a solution to this problem. It remains only to wait for a new update with enhanced sound to arrive.

Audio recording is going well. The second microphone perfectly suppresses external noise and the interlocutor hears us clearly and loudly.

The sound in the headphones is good. Even without additional EQ adjustment, all frequencies sound balanced. There are no extraneous noises when listening.

Connection

UMI Super supports all Russian frequencies. Keeps 3G, 4G networks stable and without crashes. It catches the network very well - where I used to barely catch 3G, now it keeps stable 4G (seen on most screenshots).

Camera

The phone has a 13 megapixel camera, and it seems that this is the only detail that was saved on. I will not exaggerate - this camera can take a good picture, has a fast focus, high shooting speed. But I know what kind of photos phones have now learned to take - huge resolution, IR focus, stabilization. The same phone makes everyday shooting - documents, general plans, some important events. Video, in turn, the smartphone shoots very, very well - 30 FPS 720p, coupled with a normal microphone, give a good result.

Sample photos (without processing) 23 photos

No matter how I tried, I could not upload photos to the music - they simply exceed the maximum size. I posted them here:
There are 23 photos with a total size of 100 MB. There is online viewing - you do not need to download anything.
PS: I tried to take into account the opinions of other people on the Internet, and brought some night photos.

The camera app has been improved in the October update. Many add-ons have been added. Maybe someone who understands this will get better photos.

Flash

Separated it into a separate paragraph. I was surprised by the power of this dual LED flash.

In the first half of this year, UMi released two smartphones one after the other with extremely similar looks and almost identical technical specifications. These are Super and Max. Neither of them seems to be a simplified version of the other, and they cost about the same - $ 170-200. Let's study this couple in detail and try to understand how smartphones still differ and which one is preferable for the buyer. Let's get started.

Equipment and design

The boxes of smartphones are completely different: the UMi Super has a large, flat and metal box, while the Max has a rather compact, tall and cardboard box. Well, that is, Max received a completely ordinary box, and UMi worked on the Super packaging. Inside, however, everything is almost the same: a smartphone with a built-in battery, a charger, a USB cable, documentation, a needle for removing the SIM tray (for some reason, it was not in our pre-release box with Super). On the envelope where the documentation from UMi Max is hidden, it says UMi Super, although the documentation inside is about UMi Max. The Super comes with fast charging (up to 15 W), the Max comes with a regular one (5 W). We also received separately a protective case for UMi Super, which protects the smartphone well from all sides.

Externally, smartphones are almost the same. The location of all control elements is absolutely identical, the dimensions are also completely the same. Thanks to this, the case from UMi Super can be used with UMi Max, if you are not confused by the Super inscription on the case itself. Even SIM sleds from one smartphone can be inserted into another, and they will only stand out in color. By the way, the sled has one micro-SIM slot and one micro-SIM + microSD combo slot. Below the tray is a button to launch a pre-selected application.

Under the rear camera is a fingerprint scanner, it quickly recognizes a finger if you initially enter it without a case on. At Super, on the second or third day, the scanner went crazy and began to record the input of other people's fingers when no one touched the phone, each time turning on the screen, displaying Too many attempts and vibrating. This is a massive problem that many smartphone users are complaining about. UMi Max does not have it.

Both smartphones are available in gray and gold colors. Super has a darker gray, Max has a very light gray. Both smartphones got to us in gray. The devices are all-metal, but there are plastic inserts in the upper and lower parts of the back panel. On the UMi Max, they are circled, which I think makes the design more solid and balanced. However, this is subjective - you may like the lack of stripes on the Super more. (What kind of little things are we discussing!)

UMi Max and UMi Super are assembled perfectly, there are no gaps, backlashes or creaks anywhere. The only thing you can still find fault with is the buttons on the ends of the Max that slosh when shaking. But I won’t praise much ergonomics: due to straight, and not beveled or rounded ends, smartphones feel somewhat larger than they actually are. Of course, you can get used to them.

Smartphones are equipped with screens that are similar in many respects. These are 5.5 "panels with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels (401 ppi), manufactured by Sharp and covered with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3. At the same time, the display production technology is different: the Super screen is LTPS, the Max screen is IPS. The picture on the Max screen a little cooler, it fades a little more when tilted, while the maximum brightness is slightly higher. However, all these differences can only be noticed by putting two smartphones side by side, so you should not take them as critical. It is better to pay attention to something else: the Max glass has an oleophobic coating , while Super glass does not (we don't have prototypes for sale and commercial samples may have it).

Three touch keys fit under the screen: two of them are not marked in any way, and the central one looks like a circle. This is an LED indicator that can light up to seven different colors and flash beautifully smoothly. When "complex" colors like white light up, the backlight is a little uneven, and instead of white, it turns out to be a beautiful pale purple-greenish circle. The LED can either notify you of something (low battery, missed calls, notifications), or just blink cutely in standby mode. I note that the indicator does not cause laughter, although it is called Harlequin ("harlequin").

Software

Preinstalled software:

UMi Super and Max run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system, the manufacturer promises to update them to 7.0 Nougat by the end of the year. Minor updates that preserve the version of the OS are released regularly, introducing new features. The latest update for the Super has given users an updated camera app with pro mode, and it's coming to the Max soon. All control features and software features of Super and Max are the same as those of Plus, so I will not repeat myself, but I will invite you to review this smartphone. I will note only one difference: here the replacement of the touch buttons with on-screen ones works as it should, that is, the touch buttons are turned off.

Camera

The cameras in smartphones are exactly the same, although they shoot differently. A 13-megapixel Panasonic MN34172 sensor is used. There is a dual LED flash, aperture is f / 2.0. The frames are notable for good detail, but smartphones often make mistakes in color reproduction, making pictures either warm or cold. See for yourself:

Max-Super

Some evening shots from UMi Max. The color rendition remains close to adequate, the detailing remains good (only you need to hold the smartphone in your hands more tightly: the shutter speed increases to 1/7 s). But it's full of noise.

The front camera is a 5-megapixel module based on the GalaxyCore GC5005 sensor. Aperture f/2.8. For self-portraits on Instagram and chatting on Skype, it will be enough, but you don’t need more. In the dark, it’s better not to take pictures of yourself: I turned green when I tried to do this. The video is written in [email protected].

Max-Super

The video is written with dignity, digital stabilization and microphone cope with their duties. Pleased with the detail. But the lack of automatic refocusing when shooting video is not encouraging. You have to point your finger. Resolution is 1080p at 30fps frame rate. In low light, the frame rate drops four times, to 7 fps.

Performance and Benchmarks

UMi Max and Super are based on different versions of the MediaTek Helio P10 chipset. Max has the familiar Meizu M3 Note and its counterparts MT6755M with a maximum frequency of 1.8 GHz, and Super has a full-fledged MT6755 with a maximum frequency of 2 GHz. The amount of RAM is also different: 3 GB in Max and 4 GB in Super. When you first turn it on, 1.2-1.3 GB is occupied. In terms of built-in memory, Super is also ahead: 32 GB versus 16 GB. The user has access to 23.37 GB and 9.39 GB, respectively. Here's what benchmarks say about this difference.
