I had no desire to leave at all, but immediately after graduating from the gymnasium, I went to study at the London campus of the private institute of fashion and design Istituto Marangoni on Foundation program Year. I didn't want to waste my time - if I wanted to enter a European university in the future, I would need a 12th grade school or a first year at the institute. I didn’t even think about architecture then, I knew that architecture is difficult and serious. After cooking in the field of fashion, I realized that all this is not at all mine and, in general, it’s not so scary to spend time on self-identification and more consciously approach the choice of a future profession and a business that I would like to do. In Moscow, she returned to the creative studio, which she went to before leaving, mastered the Tiffany stained glass technique, was like 3D modeling courses for familiar students from the Moscow Architectural Institute. I came to the conclusion that I still want to study something fundamental, and it will be. To my great happiness, all this time there was no radical pressure from close people. Everyone understood that this was my life, and they gave me time to decide, for which I am extremely grateful.

Now I am a first year student at the Florence State University at the faculty of "Architectural Sciences". Why exactly here? In response to this question, one usually expects to hear about a long-held dream associated with a certain country, or that the climate, for example, is good, but I did not have anything like that. To be honest, five years ago I did not like Italy and everything connected with it. I just didn’t understand, and everyone around was just talking about Italy. The same thing happened to me with the Harry Potter books - rejection against the backdrop of general delight. But when the question arose of where to go, for some reason only one place was spinning in my head - Florence. Although I could not even imagine my life in such a small and old city.

Anyone who studies architecture knows what a significant role Italy played, in particular the Renaissance. Florence is the birthplace of the Renaissance, the symbol of the Renaissance is the dome on the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, which was designed by one of the greatest architects of that time, Filippo Brunelleschi. All the geniuses of that time lived for some time in Florence: someone was born, someone studied. Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Raphael Santi, Masaccio, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Donatello created and worked here. Florence has an incredible atmosphere and most of what you read about in textbooks is right here at your fingertips.

That is, at first I decided on a place, and then I started looking for a university with the direction I needed. Only after some time of being here did I realize that it was the best place to study architecture.

My course is divided into two parts: three years general program plus two years of specialization - that is, if you unlearn only three years, in fact you will not be an architect. There is also the Faculty of Architecture, there is a single five-year course, but there is no deepening into one specialization. In general, both there and there you need to study for at least five years. “Minimum” - because if you run up debts or fail to pass some exams, you are not expelled, but given the opportunity to retake, but with a large interval - six months or a year; perhaps even another professor. So it's better not to delay it. All training for Italian. In Italy, there are no undergraduate programs in English, although some universities offer master's programs in English.

Study, study and study again. Don't know where? Prointerno has compiled a list of the best architecture schools to help (prospective) students find the right university and go abroad.

School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA)

It is not so easy to enter the most prestigious US university - they say, on average, out of 20 applicants, only one becomes a student. The university produces both outstanding theoretical scientists and brilliant engineers - it is not without reason that its motto is Mens et Manus (“Head and Hands”). The Faculty of Architecture is known for its strong curriculum - by the way, it has recently been digitized and made available for free access.

High school graduates, bachelors and professionals who want to continue their studies in Massachusetts technological university, you must provide a certificate (or diploma), write three essays, pass several tests and pass an interview. Annual training here it costs about $40,000 - but there is an opportunity to receive a grant (and each student is provided with a room in a hostel). By the way, the beaver was chosen as the symbol of the university, because it is called "an engineer by nature."

School of Architecture of the Architectural Association (England)

Good old school in good old England offers 11 curricula By different directions- the cost depends on the chosen course (but grants and scholarships are also provided). Oddly enough, AA School rarely makes the list. best universities- although it was founded back in 1847, and among its graduates there are such "stars" of architecture as Zaha Hadid and David Chipperfield. The school is located in several old buildings of the Georgian era, while the institution is no stranger to innovative approaches to learning.

Bartlett School of Architecture (England)

One of the leading architectural schools in England (along with the AA School) stands out for its exacting attitude towards students - but it must be admitted that none of the students is in a hurry to complain. Bartlett is under the auspices of renowned architectural firm Fosters & Partners, which provides materials and equipment for the annual exhibition. Students have a good reason to take part in this event (and try) - after all, the authors the best works get an internship with Norman Foster himself.

University of Delft (Holland)

Each of the universities on our default list deserves the title of “one of the best”, but Delft University of Technology is considered the best among European architectural schools. If English is enough to study in the magistracy, then graduate school requires students to know Dutch. Annual education here is relatively inexpensive - about €10,000.

Bauhaus University (Germany)

Germany is justifiably considered a European center free education- for example, studying at the Bauhaus will not cost a single €. The glorious past of the university, where even Wassily Kandinsky worked, has been replaced by a no less glorious present - the scientific community recognizes the authority of the university.

Students International works with dozens of universities, many of which teach architecture abroad, including programs at the graduate level.

Start of studies: August

Cost of education A: A 2-year program of study will cost approximately 60-65,000 USD depending on the number of subjects/credits chosen. Tuition is not paid for the entire program, not for a year, but on a semester basis: how many subjects for the next semester I took - I paid for that much.

As it becomes clear from the description above, applying for a master's degree in architecture at the University of Idaho is an extremely difficult and long process ... Especially for foreign applicants there is a preparatory program Graduate Global Student Success Program (GSSP), which not only simplifies the admission process, but also allows you to enter with four lower entrance requirements.

A few words about this GSSP preparatory program,
to experience its benefits:

1. You can speak English not at 6.5 in IELTS, but 6.0 is enough
2. The duration of study at the GSSP is 2 semesters, however, many subjects that are studied at the GSSP count towards the main master's program, so you will need to study less at the master's program - not 2 years, but one and a half.
3. Beginning of training at GSSP twice a year - in August and January.
4. After the end of the program, you can automatically switch not only to the Master's program in Architecture, but also, if desired, to Landscape Architecture.
5. The cost of studying at the GSSP is 17.940 USD per year + a one-time university registration fee for using the university campus infrastructure of 1.199 USD is charged. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that, since later on the master's program it will be necessary to study fewer subjects, then you will need to pay less for the master's course.

Undergraduate. The study of engineering under this program lasts 3-4 years. High school graduates can enter a technical university abroad. But for this they need to confirm good knowledge mathematics and physics. Students studying engineering at universities in Moscow and other cities of Russia can also continue their technical education under the bachelor's degree program abroad. In this case, knowledge of computer, precise and natural sciences. The ability to apply them in practice will also be a plus. At the undergraduate level technical institutes abroad offer to study engineering through theoretical and practical exercises which are aimed at applying knowledge to solve actual problems.

Master's degree. It accepts students with a bachelor's degree in engineering. Master's degree studies last 1-2 years. As part of it, students receive a narrower specialization. An integral part educational process serves as an internship, the passage of which contributes to successful employment in the future.

Obtaining a second higher technical education abroad provides for participation in significant projects in the field of engineering. Students are also waiting for master classes from leading experts.

Technical courses abroad will be of interest to already established specialists. By visiting them, they will be able to improve their skills.

Which universities abroad offer technical education?

STAR Academy cooperates with leading universities in different countries peace. In the US, this is Northeastern University. It offers education in the specialties "Bioengineering" and "Nanotechnology". In Canada, we partner with SAIT Polytechnic, which has been recognized as the best technical school in the country. The main specialties in it are “Robotics”, “Design of pipeline systems”. You can get an education in engineering technology by becoming a student at Curtin University in Australia, Swansea University or Anglia Ruskin University in the UK.

How to become a student of a technical university abroad?

best in major cities where construction and design experience has been accumulated. Russia has a strong architectural school in Moscow and St. Petersburg. But ideally, of course, it is necessary to exchange experiences and gain knowledge from outside. It is no coincidence that in tsarist times architects from Europe were invited or Russian architects left to study abroad.

In Europe, the best architecture courses are in Holland. There, in general, a heightened understanding of what the face of the city should be like. They know how to fit new objects into the existing architectural environment. This is important, since there are already many examples of poorly constructed buildings that spoil the landscape in our time.

High-tech style lovers are best to turn their attention to America. There are many universities that are famous for their architecture programs. However, German universities are approximately the same, but not everywhere they teach in English.

As for Italy, which at one time was a trendsetter in architectural fashion, now they are mainly engaged in restoration or training civil engineers. In Milan, there is a well-known university Politecnico di Milano, which organizes 4 times a year on the topic of public interiors.

The choice of country and university will depend on what you are interested in, as well as on your ability to pay. Studying in the USA or in England is more expensive than, for example, in the Netherlands. However, do not forget about grants and scholarships.

What do you need?

The requirements are different for different universities. But among general requirements– knowledge of the language in which education is conducted (more often English), the presence of a high score in the school certificate or diploma (if you continue your studies), as well as a portfolio and resume.

In general, the portfolio is the most important thing, so its preparation should be approached as seriously as possible. It happens that the score in the certificate of the applicant is not very high, but the portfolio convinces the commission that the person must be admitted to the course.

Many universities may require applicants to take preparatory courses. Sometimes it's a few months, sometimes it's a year or two. Quite often, the final exams in the courses are considered entrance to the university. Find out all the details on the website of the educational institution where you are going to enroll.
