In terms of quality, practicality, as well as aesthetic characteristics, a bathhouse made of wood beams practically does not differ in any way from a building made of rounded logs, but at the same time, the construction process is much simpler and does not require special skill.

A wooden bath is considered truly Russian, since once in Rus' every building was erected without the use of nails, but as soundly as possible.

So, let's talk about the construction of a bath from a natural bar.

What are the criteria for choosing a beam for a steam room?

One of the significant stages in the construction of a bath is, of course, the choice of an array. After all, the characteristics of the bath directly depend on this.

First of all, pay attention Special attention on the absence of any cracks in the logs, which, having expanded in the future, will become the cause of defects and decay of the massif during shrinkage.

In addition, there should be no blue highlights on the wood, indicating internal decay, which is associated with the presence of fungi.

It is not recommended to build a building from such material. In addition, the beam is defective if there is a wormhole on it.

At the same time, a good beam is absolutely smooth. If there are defects, as well as various distortions, then this is not in the best way will affect the arrangement of crowns, respectively, the construction of a steam room can stretch for a long period of time.

There are several varieties of timber: solid, as well as profiled. The second option is equipped with spikes, grooves that are subject to grinding. Similar parts are easier to connect to each other.

The most important plus is the non-susceptibility of such walls to the adverse effects of moisture. As for the minuses, the material has a low degree of refractoriness, which means that it must be subjected to additional processing with propylene.

Solid timber is also used in construction. However, outwardly, it does not look attractive, so it is covered with siding.

Types of modern baths

Today there is a variety of types of modern baths, namely:

with attic

This is one of the most common options for a steam room with a mansard roof, as well as a veranda. In the upper part of the building there is a bedroom where you can comfortably relax after taking a bath.

And the veranda is a great place where you can drink a cup of fragrant tea.

with terrace

Are you going to build a barbecue in the country? Then build a steam room with a terrace where you can equip the stove directly. After the expiration of time, you can create a pond in front of the steam room.

with veranda

A bath with a spacious veranda is considered one of the simplest structures.

At the same time, it is preferable to glaze the veranda and use it as a summer recreation area, a kitchen space.

with a porch

Are you a true Russian banya fan? Then build it with a spacious porch, which is not only beautiful, but also as practical as possible.

A small table, a traditional samovar and the splendor of the surrounding nature.

With a veranda, as well as a spacious roof

Such a steam room is distinguished by great dignity - a covered veranda, as well as a wide attic area. In this option, you get a small foundation.

Foundation

A durable bath created from a bar can be erected on a tape, or column foundation.

For the arrangement of the foundation of the tape type, a formwork is built, poured with a concrete mixture. Inside the foundation there will be a strip of sand or gravel.

A couple of weeks after the concrete has completely hardened, you can start laying the log house.

To create a columnar foundation, it is necessary to set up brick pillars, under each of which a concrete pillow is arranged to prevent subsidence.

However, no matter what type of foundation you prefer, it is important to strengthen it with reinforcement for durability.

Also, you can not do without a practical waterproofing created between the original crown and the base. For these purposes, molten bitumen is applied to the foundation surface, which is covered with an even roofing material layer. As soon as it hardens, the procedure must be repeated.

If you have decided to build a reliable and beautiful bath, then by all means get a project and, focusing on our recommendations, make your dreams come true.

They provide for a comfortable environment for the client and equipment for the dressing room and steam room.

In Rus', traditionally, the bathhouse was built from a single log. Most often, conifers were used for this. Over the centuries of the existence of this design, builders have improved it to the smallest detail. And at present there is nothing better than a log sauna, in which it is easy to breathe and bathe.

Peculiarities

Looks simple and uncomplicated wooden frame yet reliable and thoughtful.

It is this material that has the ability to create a unique microclimate in the building. The main requirements for the type of wood from which it was planned to build a bath are water resistance and the ability to breathe easily.

Pine and cedar give a resinous atmosphere. Logs from a larch are practically not subject to rotting and unusually strong. Aspen is the most "airy" breed - in the bath of its logs it is easiest to breathe.

The main feature of the tree is that it does not interfere with the movement of air, while the steam remains where it should be - in the steam room. Excess moisture is removed by itself. At the same time, wood is an excellent natural heat insulator. In addition, she provides positive influence on human energy and destroys pathogenic flora.

You cannot build a real “Russian bath” from plastic or sandwich panels. For her, only a tree is suitable.

To date, it is possible to build a log bath in hundreds of different variations: two-story, with an attic, with a garage, with a pool, with a veranda - it all depends on the owner's imagination and, of course, on the time and money that he is ready to invest in construction.

Advantages and disadvantages

The first and main advantage of a bath from a solid log is its naturalness, organicity, environmental friendliness (there can be many names, but the essence is the same). Wood - best material for the construction of a bath complex, this is especially true for people with respiratory diseases - they are actually recommended to visit such a sauna. It is difficult to overestimate the special atmosphere that is created and maintained in a wooden steam room.

When building a bath from a log, the most common method is cutting "into a bowl". Its essence is that a semicircular hole is made in the upper log. In size, it should be the same as half the height of the log below it. When using this method of construction, the building has a minimum property of heat loss.

The ends of the logs, protruding 25-30 cm beyond the boundaries of the walls, protect the building from winds and rains. Construction time is minimal as the logs fit easily into each other. The bath turns out to be very durable: the parts do not move and are tightly fixed due to the “bowl”.

A log building is easy and quick to heat, it warms up well. Properly treated wood will last a long time without losing its attractive appearance.

It is impossible not to note the disadvantages of such buildings. They are few, but they can become very significant.

  • Price. Well-dried solid logs can cost a large amount to the owner.
  • As a result of cutting "into the bowl", a large waste of material is formed due to protruding parts. This, in turn, will further increase the final price of the building.
  • Mandatory impregnation with an antiseptic against rotting, burning, fungus. Not any composition is suitable for this, because a bath is a building in which, due to the release of steam, any Chemical substance will be released into the air and inhaled by humans. Therefore, the composition should be as natural as possible, harmless, which is also not cheap.

log types

The material necessary for construction is prepared in advance, as it needs good drying. It is best to choose a pine log for a log house. If you prepare the material in winter, it will have high moisture resistance.

The diameter of the logs that are planned to be used for the construction of the bath complex should be in the range of 18-25 cm. The difference in the diameters of each of the logs should not exceed 3 cm. Otherwise, they will not fit snugly together.

Wood should not only be of the same species, but preferably grown in one climate zone. It is preferable to choose trees grown in forests of northern latitude, since they are the least affected by temperature and humidity changes.

Logs can be divided into several types:

  • Rounded (calibrated). processed on a special machine. Therefore, they are given the same perfectly round shape and equal diameter. This makes it very easy to install them. But when rounding, not only the bark is removed from the log, but also the top layer - the bast, which protects the tree from the effects environment. That is, a calibrated log, although it is more budgetary in cost, and it is easy to build a structure from it, however, it is subject to rotting, cracking and even deformation. Therefore, for the construction of a bath, it is better to choose a different material.
  • Planed- these logs are processed not by a machine, like calibrated ones, but by an electric planer. As a result, the loss of the upper layer is not so significant. A planed log is not as even as a round log, but the difference in diameters is negligible. However, when building a log house, manual adjustment is necessary.

  • Carriage (Norwegian felling). This type of log is obtained by sharpening and sawing from opposite ends. By its properties, the carriage is close to both a log and a bar. It is prone to cracking, but less than a sized and planed log. If the carriage is well treated with an antiseptic and other compounds, its service life is quite long. Its cost is higher, but on the other hand, interior decoration is not required for the structure of the gun carriage, which means that you can save on it.
  • scraped- These are the most durable logs. They are processed as follows: first, debarked logs are made, then the bast is removed manually by scraping. Then they cut the log house and grind it in draft. They collect it in the right area and grind it again - the last one. If you follow this technology, then only the top layer of the bark will be removed from the log, and all the properties of the tree species, including resin content, will be preserved. Even a scraped log house not treated with antiseptics will stand for a very long time. If impregnated, the bath will last a hundred years. However, fitting log to log will take a long time, as each one retains its knotty, shape, curves, and everything else.

  • Beam with a square section. This is the most budget option. The bath from it will have even and smooth walls. But it is not easy to build such a structure - a very careful adjustment of the log house elements to each other will be required.
  • Plain skinned. The most commonly used type of material. Due to the fact that the top layer is not disturbed, it is little susceptible to decay and destruction. However, it needs to be impregnated with appropriate compounds.

When choosing lumber, you need to consider a number of factors:

  • most low temperatures air in winter at the construction site;
  • the frequency of the planned operation of the bath;
  • building area;
  • drying technology.

If it is planned to operate the bath only in summer time, logs with a diameter of 18 to 20 cm are quite suitable. For such a structure, a strong foundation is not needed.

In the case of building a bath for use throughout the year, logs of a larger diameter are needed - from 24 cm. The base will also need to be more powerful: a monolithic or strip foundation is well suited.

The way wood is dried determines its moisture content. In turn, humidity affects the degree of shrinkage of the structure:

  • material obtained by manual cutting shrinks by 15 cm or more;
  • thick logs grown in the forest, felled in winter and dried naturally, are subject to shrinkage of at least 4-6 cm;
  • rounded logs dried in a chamber shrink 3 cm.

These indicators must be taken into account when developing a bath project for calculating correct height And required amount lumber.

When purchasing and harvesting logs, a number of rules must be observed:

  • None of the elements should be affected by insects.
  • Trunks should be straight, without curvature. The permissible difference in the diameters of the ends is 3 cm.
  • None of the logs should be damaged of any kind.
  • The greater the thickness of the logs, the more difficult it is to build from them, and the higher their cost.
  • It is necessary to harvest lumber on your own in winter.
  • When choosing a tree, 1 cm should be added to the calculated value of the diameter for further processing.

  • If the felling was carried out with a gas or electric saw, the cut of the log becomes "tousled" and is more prone to rotting. To avoid this, you need to cleanly hew wood with an ax. Previously, it is cut down between the transverse cuts.
  • Construction is carried out from freshly sawn material. It is easier to work with and is less prone to cracking and warping when folded.
  • Debarked logs must be stacked, laid with bars to ensure air movement. From above, the stack is protected by a canopy or thick cellophane to avoid both exposure to precipitation and direct sunlight. Logs need to dry for two weeks. After that, you need to start cutting the log house. If the lumber is dry, it is difficult to process it.
  • In order for the logs to crack less from the front of the structure, cuts are made on each of them with a depth of about a quarter of its diameter. This is done in order to compensate for internal stress and in the future to avoid the appearance of cracks. It is important to know that the cuts should only be made from the side opposite the longitudinal groove.

Project

Before starting construction, it is necessary to think about and decide how the bath will look like, and what tasks the owner assigns to it. Currently, the project of a 5x5 m bath with a chopped terrace and an attic is very popular. This is a small building, but it will comfortably accommodate a company of 5-7 people.

Bath 6x6 m is no less popular. It can be either a one-story building or a two-story building. It can be equipped with a recreation area outside (summer), in which there will be a barbecue or barbecue.

Depending on the capabilities and wishes of the owner, a pool can be made inside the bath. It is equipped both in a separate room and in the steam room - under a removable floor.

The bath can be both a part of the house and an independent structure. You need to make sure that it is convenient to bring communications to it. It is better if the bath is not too far from home.

In addition to the wishes of the owner, you need to take into account many natural factors: the nature of the soil, the level of groundwater, the evenness of the landscape. It depends on what foundation is required for the bath.

After all the calculations, you need to draw a sketch that will contain a bath plan. It is important to immediately decide where the furnace will be located.

How to build?

It is not easy to cut down a log bath from scratch with your own hands, but this is possible with certain skills and abilities. And you also need to understand that it is unrealistic to do this alone, since even in order to lift a log, you need at least two, and preferably three. Therefore, it is better to find yourself sensible assistants.

The construction of a bath begins with the foundation. It can be of three types:

  • tape;
  • shallow;
  • columnar.

The type of foundation depends on the soil on the site.

If the earth is heaving, a shallow option would be best. If the building is planned to be small, then it is advisable to stop on a columnar foundation. For a large bath (this includes a two-story bath), only a tape version with a depth below the ground freezing level can be considered.

After the selected type of foundation is built, a waterproofing layer is placed on it. It could be ruberoid.

After that, they proceed to the construction of the log house itself. The first crown is called salary. It is made from a log of the largest thickness, best of all from oak.. It is laid on a layer of roofing material. Before laying, the bottom is cut off from it and the stes is treated with antiseptic impregnation.

The frame is placed in the ways “in the bowl”, “in the oblo” or “in the paw” (this is the most time-consuming of them). Before installing each element, it is adjusted (only calibrated logs are not adjusted, you can immediately form a log house from them).

When erecting, immediately lay a layer of insulation - moss, hemp, tow or other material.

The upper crown of the log house is called Mauerlat. It is a support for the rafters, so its choice must be treated no less carefully than the choice of a crown crown.

After the frame is assembled, it needs to be caulked. For this, moss, linen tow, felt are used.. You need to start caulking from the bottom crown and go around. If you make a caulk on one wall, the bath will warp.

The finished log house from calibrated logs is assembled according to the instructions attached to it. It step by step indicates not only the sequence of actions, but also the rules that must be followed during assembly.

It is important to accurately fulfill all the requirements to ensure a high-quality and tight fit of the elements to each other and avoid distortions of the structure.

After the construction of the log house is completed, it is necessary to bring it under the roof this year. It doesn't matter if it's a temporary or permanent roof. For the bath complex most often they use a simple gable roof with cold attic equipment underneath. To do this, the pitch of the rafters is taken equal to 1-1.5 m. If the attic is warm, the width of the pitch of the rafters is calculated based on the size of the slab of insulation material.

The legs of the rafters are cut into the Mauerlat. The upper parts of the legs are fastened. After that, the rafters are upholstered with a crate, and a layer of waterproofing is already placed on it, it can be roofing material. As for the roofing, it is better to choose it according to your desire: make a roof from slate, metal tiles, corrugated board or ondulin.

Window and door openings are cut in an already erected and insulated log house. They are strengthened with a pigtail, and window frames and door frames are fixed to it.

It is important to remember that in accordance with the provisions of fire safety Entrance door should open outward. These requirements apply to any door in the building.

From the inside, the steam room and the dressing room can be sheathed with clapboard, board. When cladding, be sure to follow the rules of thermal insulation and not disturb the movement of air.

How to insulate?

Properly insulating a bath house is one of the most milestones construction. Otherwise, acceptance water procedures will become uncomfortable. Heat should not leave the room either through the walls or through the ceiling. Ensuring proper air circulation is very important to maintain a healthy microclimate inside the building.

It is not easy to choose the optimal type of insulation. There are several ways to protect walls.

To insulate a log bath, it is better to choose a natural material, for example, mineral wool. There are few options for insulating a log bath, since surface irregularities and roughness are not suitable for most heaters. Nevertheless, it is important to process the joints of the logs in such a way that heat does not escape through them.

For this, different materials are used:

  • Tow- the most commonly used insulation. Is issued in rolls. With its help, you can avoid drafts, it retains heat and soundproofs the room. But like any organic matter, it is short-lived: it attracts both birds and rodents. Therefore, to ensure good insulation of the bath every 2-3 years, you will have to caulk again.
  • Another natural material is moss.. You can not buy it, but assemble it yourself. Moss perfectly retains heat, moisture resistant, dense. But it is susceptible to moth attack even when properly processed. Over time, the moss is destroyed, it will have to be updated.
  • Linen and jute fibers- also a natural roll material. It is more expensive, but at the same time its service life is much longer. The fiber is not subject to decay, does not interest rodents and birds. This material is the best way to insulate a log bath.

Whether the building needs to be insulated from the inside or only external caulking is enough - everyone has their own answer to this question. There are different opinions on this matter.

When internal insulation usable area will be reduced. natural material, whether it be tow or moss, needs additional protection with a waterproof film.

This cannot prevent the formation of condensate between the wall and the insulation layer. This will damage the wood, the process of decay will begin. That's why insulation from the inside is used infrequently.

The instructions for warming the log house are simple. Work begins simultaneously with the assembly of the log house. Then pushing the insulation into the seams will be very inconvenient. Prior to the start of these works, all logs must be treated with an antiseptic and flame retardant: from decay and from fire.

The stages of warming are as follows:

  • laying material between the crowns of the log house;
  • caulking of cracks - can be carried out no earlier than six months later, when the wood and insulation finally sit down.

The steam room is first covered with a waterproofing film. A basalt insulation, produced in rolls, is fixed on it. It is covered with foil. A crate made of wood is stuffed on top of it, then the whole structure is already closed either with clapboard or other material.

Ventilation

The construction of a bath involves many different activities. Not the last place among them is occupied by the ventilation device. Oddly enough, even experienced specialists often dissuade owners from extractor equipment, vents and openings, because “steam will be lost”, and natural air circulation is enough.

However, it is forced ventilation that is required in most cases, otherwise the bath will simply be dangerous to operate. Indeed, in a hot steam room or sauna, the higher a person sits, he inhales oxygen and exhales carbon dioxide. At temperatures above 60 C, if there is no normal circulation, it is easy to burn.

It is in order to ensure a constant flow of air (and oxygen) that it is necessary to equip forced ventilation.

In a classic Russian bath there is always an outlet - a hole for air movement. Ventilation can be arranged in a natural way - in the lower crowns, the laying occurs freely, and gaps are left in the door around the entire perimeter.

However, for big family or a group of friends, this may not be enough. It is better to take care of full forced ventilation. Especially if the operation of the bath is planned year-round.

In the absence of normal air circulation in the bath, a number of unpleasant consequences are possible:

  • The life of the building is reduced because the wood does not dry well. This is fraught rapid development rotting logs.
  • Due to temperature changes, high humidity inside the bath, and especially the steam room, bacteria and microbes can multiply. This leads to "stale" smells of various kinds, and to mold, bugs, cockroaches, as well as the rapid decay of logs. As a result, it will become impossible to enter the bathhouse, not to mention taking water procedures, because it is impossible to influence all these things with chemicals, and it will not be possible to get rid of them in another way.
  • It is very easy to "catch" the disease: both a fungus and various kinds of allergic reactions. This is especially true for people with respiratory diseases.

What kind of ventilation device will be correct - let's try to figure it out. The basic rule is this: in an hour, the air in the bath should be completely updated three times. How this will be achieved is up to the owner.

The hood must not interfere and disturb temperature regime , that is, the air should not be cooled due to the action of ventilation. Only exhaust air saturated with carbon dioxide is subject to removal from the bath.. All oxygen must be retained in the bath. The appearance of drafts is unacceptable - neither in the steam room, nor in the sink.

The hottest, hottest air should be under the ceiling.

Experts distinguish three types of ventilation, each of which can provide full air circulation:

  • Natural- movement air masses occurs due to temperature fluctuations different pressure and other physical phenomena.
  • Mechanical– air moves thanks to fans and hoods.
  • Combined- combines elements of the first and second types.

It must be remembered that it is necessary to ventilate not only the steam room, but also all rooms.

It is unacceptable to place products on the ceiling. This is fraught with weathering of heat in two to three minutes, and then it will take a long time to warm up the bath.

Floor ventilation is also necessary, it needs to be thought out at the construction stage. Otherwise, the floors and floors will rot in a few years. Ventilation holes can be arranged next to the foundation, and in order to prevent the entry of mice and rats, metal gratings can be installed on them.

The gate valve can be installed under the ceiling, but the lion's share of the time it must be closed.

When installing the stove, you need to take into account that the finishing floor should be slightly higher than the blower.

You can also install a special exhaust duct opposite the door under the ceiling or directly on it. This will require certain skills.

Design

Traditionally, the Russian bath is built in the form of a hut. Inside, it is divided into a dressing room and a steam room.

In the interior of the Russian type bath minimal amount decor items. It contains only the essentials.

  • in the steam room- an oven, a bench or other seating surface, a water tank, a large deep wooden tub for ablution and brooms.
  • In the dressing room- a table and chairs (or benches), it is better if they are made of solid wood, possibly deliberately roughly processed.

The main design decoration can be carved platbands on the windows. Traditionally, the window (or windows) face southwest so you can see the sunset.

Another element of decor that can be used to diversify the design of a bath is lighting fixtures. It is better to choose lamps in a traditional style: carved wooden crates or lampshades will harmoniously fit into the atmosphere of a Russian hut. Forged fittings will look good, especially if it is supported by other decorative elements.

It should be remembered that metal parts are acceptable everywhere except for a steam room or sauna - there they are subject to strong heat, you can get burned about them.

It is not necessary to limit the layout of the bath to the dressing room and steam room. It contains a swimming pool, a shower room, a relaxation room with a billiards table or a card table. An interesting design solution could be a steam room or a sauna with a removable floor, under which a pool is hidden.

Inside the walls of the baths have a different texture, as they are upholstered with clapboard or other material. Outside, due to the log masonry, the walls are semi-circular or, in the case of square beam construction, straight.

From the inside, the boards are not varnished or otherwise chemical composition, they are carefully polished.

For construction wooden bath it is best to use conifers. You need to take only prepared material. If these are rounded logs, they must be of the same size and diameter. If the log has curvature or unevenness, it is rejected. And also not to be used for construction are specimens that have dark spots, with an excessively large core, knotty, having cavities where the knots are located.

  • The cut of the log should be neat, not "tousled". Its surface should be yellow (light or dark shade). If the material is not too dry, then when it is hit with the butt of an ax, it rings.
  • In order for the building to be strictly horizontal, the first crown must be disassembled. This means that it must be made perfectly even in height.
  • IN southern regions for the construction of baths, it is better to take oak wood.
  • By tradition, logs are laid on the foundation with growth rings outward. Because it is this part of them that withstands temperature changes and negative impact environment.

  • When switching to warming the bath, it is not necessary to allow one wall to be completely caulked. Otherwise, the frame will warp.
  • When building a structure from rounded logs, they must be treated with an antiseptic and flame retardant, since they do not have an outer layer.
