We focus on the months most favorable for a trip to Thailand. Everything is on point: weather, prices for tours in 2019, features of resorts.

The tourist season in Thailand lasts all year round. Nevertheless, the question of where and when it is better to go on vacation is always relevant. Today we will share information based on personal experience 3 trips (were in Phuket, Pattaya, Krabi and Bangkok) and of course the reviews of travelers and bloggers:

  • When beach season Thailand starts and ends
  • where the sea is warmer
  • How do ticket prices differ depending on the seasons?
  • when to fly for cheap fruit
  • and is it possible to low season rest better than high?

For more interest, we note that for 2019 a tour to Thailand for two can be found from 70,000 rubles for 10 days. Where to look for such profitable options? Let's talk two sections below 🙂

Search for cheap tours on your own. Best Services

You should not wait for a delicious offer from above and rely on third parties, you need to take matters into your own hands and look for tours yourself! It's not difficult and even more interesting 🙂

There are three great sites that we (and tens of thousands of other travelers) have tested:

Cool, because they compare prices for tours from all tour operators at once and give out the most profitable options. To put it simply, it's like Skyscanner, only for tours 🙂 We research the desired destination on each service, study the tour cost schedule by months, adjust the dates and requirements for the hotel and book what we like, where it's cheaper.

As our practice shows, Travelata and LevelTravel help out in case of early booking, and Online Tours is generous with last-minute tours. But it happens the other way around too, so it's worth checking out all three (and checking which promo codes work).

Beginning and end of the holiday season in Thailand

Phuket Island (our trip 2018)

In general, in Thailand, the holiday season is an ambiguous concept. In December, you bask in the sun in Phuket, and on Koh Samui, the less fortunate are counting “dry” days on their fingers. In April, you regret to conclude that you did not have time for hot season at andaman sea, and in Pattaya - near the Gulf of Thailand - at this time they do not get out of the water.

We will analyze the nuances of the climate by resorts a little lower, but for now we summarize:

By the way, do you use Telegram? We share about our trips, money spent and non-banal life hacks on the @howtrip channel. Drop by :)

And although high season in Thailand starts at the end of autumn and ends in spring, you should not be categorical about a trip in the summer.

Please note that all prices indicated in the article are current at the time of its publication and are indicative only.

If you are determined to spend your holiday in tourist season in Thailand then democratic dates fall at the end of November-beginning of December and March-April.

The "package" boom on the beaches subsides only when the rainy season in Thailand is in full swing. However, planes continue to supply vacationers who are either slightly more knowledgeable or driven by the low cost of the tour 🙂

During the rainy season in Thailand, vouchers really cost more budget - voucher prices fall from 45,000 rubles per person in January to 34,000 rubles in May. The same story with independent rest. Considering how much it takes to fly to Thailand, a ticket cannot be super-chip, but still, on off-season dates, prices tend to go down: from 20,000 rubles Moscow-Bangkok-Moscow (we recommend looking at Skyscanner and Aviasales).

Kayaking tour in the mangroves (Krabi) - we loved it

Is it worth it to go during the off-season? Based own experience- we were in Phuket in April and May - the answer is yes, definitely worth it! We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the TOP 10 best places in Thailand.

  • We were not flooded with rain (rather, refreshed a couple of times for 20 minutes),
  • did not upset the desire of the locals to cash in on a white man (they are willing to bargain, because what is there to sell and who is not 🙂)
  • we did not suffer from a lack of fruits (the same yellow mango ripens since April) and an overabundance of people (having visited Thailand for the first time in the low season, we were stunned by the number of tourists in the high season!)
  • moreover, last-minute tours were for one or two and for very pleasant amounts (our 2 weeks cost 62,000 rubles for two)

When is the rainy season in Thailand? Peculiarities

The weather at different resorts during the rainy season in Thailand varies in terms of rainfall by months, so even at this time a full-fledged beach holiday is available.

  • Phuket: The wet season comes at the end of May and it rains until mid-October. On the sea arise big waves, and those few who spend time on the island in the summer are surfers
  • Pattaya: rainy months - September and October
  • Krabi: tourists escape from the showers for the period June-September
  • Koh Samui: the island is watered from October to December

Why does the rainy season vary by region? Everything is tied to the monsoon winds, which bring a change in climatic periods. Due to the different location (the first two are near the Andaman Sea, the second - in the Gulf of Thailand), the winds do not arrive on the same schedule.

By the way, are you still afraid big name- rainy season? Then we come to you with this fact: in January we got more water than in May! Approximately 9 days versus 3 (sample of 2 weeks 🙂). In addition, water from the sky usually pours no more than half an hour during the day or within 1-2 hours after sunset. The rest of the time, Thai resorts have a uniquely comfortable temperature, but high humidity.

Season at popular resorts in Thailand

A clear idea (but not guaranteed, because these are unpredictable tropics) about the weather at different resorts and islands in Thailand by months gives a summary table.

Season in Phuket

The most popular tourist destination is the pearl of Thailand - Phuket. The holiday season in a truly beach corner of the country lasts a long time and is interrupted only by a few especially wet months.

the beginning holiday season November is considered, and the end falls on March. The hottest period falls in April and May, but it is still permissible to spend a vacation during these months. At the end of spring, the rainy season begins, and like most holiday destinations in Thailand, Phuket becomes less crowded. High waves and dirty water in June will not please beachgoers, but the season for surfers in Thailand in Phuket is just flaring up. From the second half of October, the island regains the status of the most visited resort.

  • On average, prices for tours to Phuket in 2019 per season start at 73,000 rubles
    10 days for two

Season in Pattaya

Koh Lan Island (near Pattaya)

The resort town is located in a bay on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand, is less prone to monsoons, and therefore the tourist season does not stop here. IN Thailand Pattaya- the center of entertainment and sightseeing routes. Go-go bars, night discos, massage parlors and shows for adults are the first thing that attracts tourists here, but the beach season here is also the longest. Due to the geographical location in the city, the most dry summer, and short showers do not cause discomfort.

The season in Thailand in Pattaya lasts from November to mid-August. In summer it is relatively dry and still warm, and therefore the resort is suitable for traveling to Thailand from June to August.

Are you several people? Take a profitable transfer to Pattaya from Bangkok Airport

Interestingly, there are periods in Pattaya when it's cold for everyone - really cold! A couple of years ago, the temperature in January (seemingly, the very sun) dropped to +15°C! By the way, about the unpredictability of the weather 🙂

  • 10-day tours to Pattaya for two people cost from 70,000 rubles

Season on Koh Samui

On the islands of the Gulf of Thailand, which include Koh Samui (Thailand), the best season for a holiday starts in January and lasts until the end of September. Starting October bathing season can be considered closed due to heavy rains and storms. The amount of precipitation will noticeably begin to decrease in January, and in February Koh Samui will turn into a paradise in bloom. Spring on Koh Samui - not only low prices but also an abundance of exotic fruits. April is the mango season, and in May you can already try durian, mangosteen, rambutan and other exotics that are not available in our latitudes.

The heaviest and most prolonged rains occur in the first and last thirds of the wet season. The duration of the dry season varies from north to south - the further south, the shorter it is.

Mass felling rainforest And El Niño current markedly changed the climate South-East Asia over the past twenty years. The climate of Thailand has become unpredictable: no one is surprised when it starts to rain in the middle of the dry season or the winter air temperature in the north of the country rises to +28°C. In Bangkok itself In January, you can see the thermometer, “trembling” at an unusual mark of + 7 ° C for these places ... However, such anomalies last no more than a week. At all, Thailand weather hot. Europeans living in this country joke: “ There are three seasons in Thailand - hot, very hot and terribly hot».

Climate of Thailand: rainy season

In Thailand, it is difficult to determine the length of the rainy season. It usually takes several months- starts at the end of May and can last until November. In the center of the country and in its eastern part heavy rains run from August to the end of September. By early October, water fills all irrigation systems and city drains, so even infrequent rains in October cause flooding. For example, when the Chaopraya River overflows its banks, in some parts of Bangkok the depth of the “water blanket” reaches 40 centimeters (a third of the urban area is located below sea level). Particularly strong are the floods in the north-eastern part of Thailand - hundreds of villages are flooded to the roofs of houses. Rice fields and fruit plantations suffer greatly from such "floods". Although floods occur almost every year, it is impossible to determine the regions most affected by them: the “offensive front” of water changes every time and it is very difficult to determine it in advance.

About ten years ago, water penetrated into the central part of Thailand and rose to the level of asphalt highways; several cases of crocodile escape from crocodile farms were recorded (the water level turned out to be higher than the barriers blocking the exit from the enclosures).

On the island of Phuket the largest number precipitation falls in the months of May and October, and on Koh Samui - in November (although due to the northeast monsoons, showers do not stop here from October to December). In the southern part of Thailand, the rainy season is longer than in the north (in Chiang Mai, for example, the dry season begins in October and ends in May).

Thailand weather boasts such a phenomenon as "mango rains". These are short-term, but heavy rainfalls of hot April - May (mango ripening time), accompanied by strong thunderstorms. Mango rains in Northern Thailand can begin in February.

Despite the fact that the increased humidity in several months the rainy season creates some inconvenience for holidays in Thailand, the beauty of the local nature does not fade during this period - although heavy clouds hang over the picturesque tropical beaches, there is also enough ultraviolet radiation for a good tan.

Thailand weather: air temperature

The difference in air temperature becomes smaller, the closer the equator. For example, in winter (when average daily fluctuations range from +20°C to +27°C) in northern mountains night air temperature can drop to zero, and during the day it can reach +25°C. In Chiang Mai this season in the mornings there is often a 10-degree coolness, in other areas the air temperature exceeds +20°C. hottest weather in thailand V

The climate in Thailand is hot and humid. Very hot and very humid. Most cold month in Bangkok is hotter than the warmest in Moscow. In such a climate, people sweat a lot (this applies most often to foreigners).

After an hour and a half of walking with a backpack under the sun, you will look as if a bucket of water was poured on you. Drinking fluids as a climate control measure doesn't help - it makes you sweat even more. The most important remedy against heat is air conditioning, and it is precisely by the presence or absence of it that average hotel rooms differ from cheap ones.

The kingdom is washed by the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, where the change of seasons directly depends on the sea. On the islands, the state prevails tropical climate, That's why weather conditions monsoons rule there.

Thailand is not in a seismically active zone, so there is no need to wait for earthquakes and tsunamis, but nature has its own jokes, so such a turn of events can be expected.

The winter northeast monsoon (counter-monsoon) is dry in most regions, but brings rain to parts of the south of the country, especially the Pacific coast, in December and January. In the south, in general, the climate is slightly different, the fluctuations in temperature and humidity are less significant there.

It is somewhat cool only in the north of the country, in the mountains of Lanna. The coldest cities are Chiang Rai and Mae Sai, where in winter temperatures can be like +15 (a jacket is required).

It is also cool in the north of Isan. In the mountains of the North, it can generally be cold, down to zero degrees in winter. There are no snowy mountains in Thailand.

Seasons in Thailand

The temperature in a significant part of the country depends not so much on the seasonal fluctuations of the seasons (winter-summer), but on the rains.

To the climate of Thailand
the phrase about 3 seasons is applicable: Summer, hot summer and hot summer with rains or three other options - cool, hot period and rainy season.

Dry and relatively cool season lasts from mid-November to mid-March. This best time to visit the kingdom, this time has a name - the high tourist season.

From mid-March to late April - hot season , also relatively dry, although there is already more rain. Not a very convenient time. it gets hotter, but there are fewer tourists and hotel prices in Thailand are starting to fall.

At this time, the thermometer goes off scale for +37. This period is marked by the absence of rains and clouds, but the unbearable heat at first glance is tolerated quite easily, as the air is cooled by a fresh breeze from the sea.

By the way, you can find out what kind of weather is in a particular place in Thailand using the services of webcams.

The rainy season is from May to October. There is more sun even at this time than in Central Russia in summer, but from time to time (almost daily) there are terrible showers that slightly cool the air (usually they go at night, or during the day for another hour).

At this time, in the central part of the country, rivers overflow their banks, which makes it difficult to travel around national parks, many of which are officially closed for this season.

In fact, the rainy season is not so scary as it seems at first glance. At this time, on the contrary, there are much more sunny days, there are times when the sun is replaced by clouds and it's raining usually at night and short time.

During the rainy and dry season, storms and cyclones move along the coast. Often the duration of the cyclone is limited to two to five days. Then it can rain all day long.

Due to the influence of the monsoons, high waves appear on the sea, which attract surfers from all over the world. The height of the waves depends on how high the wind speed is, the depth of the beach area, the time of day and the position of the moon in the sky. You can swim on almost all beaches during this period, but it is still not recommended to do this at night.

During the rainy season, an umbrella will not save, because the rapid walls of rain crush any umbrella. By the way, you can rent an umbrella at the hotel itself, and if you wish, you can buy it in one of the many shops for a reasonable price.

The territory of Thailand is located in tropical and subtropical zones, so the climate of Thailand pleases all year round high temperature air that rarely drops below 25 degrees Celsius. For the opportunity to stay warm all year round, many tourists have come to love this country. However, you should be aware that due to the elongated territory of Thailand from north to south, the weather in the country can vary greatly in different regions. Therefore, before going on vacation to this country, it is important to figure out what the weather is like in a particular region. And in this article we will take a closer look at the weather in Thailand by month and region.

The winter months in Thailand are considered the best to visit and are the high season. The air temperature averages +27 - + 30 degrees Celsius, the weather is sunny, rains are extremely rare. This time of year is great for visiting Bangkok, Pattaya, Rayong, Koh Chang, Hua Hin, Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi, Lanta. Sunny, warm, windless weather will meet you. As for the coast of the Gulf of Thailand, in December the rainy season still dominates here, especially in the first half of the month. Therefore, warm and sunny weather in such resorts as Koh Samui, Phangan, Koh Tao begins only in January. In the north of Thailand in Chiang Mai at this time, the temperature is comfortable during the day, but the nights are quite cool, the thermometer can drop to + 15 degrees Celsius. The climate of Thailand in winter will please everyone with sunny and clear weather.

It is also worth noting that the months of December, January and February are the most visited among tourists. And if you want to go to Thailand during the high season, then you should prepare for your trip in advance: buy plane tickets, book a hotel, otherwise the most best options will already be taken apart.

Spring: March, April, May

The climate of Thailand in the spring brings sultry heat to the entire territory of the country, the air temperature rises above +35 degrees Celsius. Rains are rare, but they do not save from hot weather. Sunbathing on the beach is stuffy and hot, you can easily get sunburn so stock up sunscreen. But the sea during this period of the year is the warmest, almost like in a bath. It is very pleasant to swim in it, although it is warm, it saves well from the heat.

March, April and May hot weather stands in Bangkok, Pattaya, Koh Chang, Hua Hin, Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui, Phangan, Koh Tao, Chiang Mai. In short, almost throughout Thailand. The most comfortable resorts in the spring season are Samet, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, here the heat is easier to bear.

In the north of Thailand spring months, in addition to the arrival of hot weather, they begin to burn the stubble in the fields, so everything is in smoke and it becomes even harder to breathe.

Coolness and more frequent rains come to Thailand at the end of May.

Summer: June, July, August

In summer, the air temperature drops, but high humidity makes the rest not very comfortable. Rainfall is increasing throughout Thailand.

The worst weather is on the Andaman coast, which includes the resorts of Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi, Lanta. It rains quite often strong wind and high waves rise on the sea. This weather is not suitable for beach holiday, so I recommend to refrain from traveling to the Andaman coast in summer time of the year.

In Bangkok and Pattaya, the amount of precipitation is also increasing, but the rains mostly fall in the afternoon or at night, while the rest of the time the weather is sunny. And on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand opens the second season. The air temperature is not too high, on average +25 degrees Celsius. It rains, of course, more often than in the period from January to May, but they are short-lived, the rest of the time the sun shines brightly. Therefore, summer time is great for a beach holiday on Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao or Pattaya. Also at this time there are much fewer tourists, prices are lower and you can save a lot on vacation.

Autumn: September, October, November

What is the weather like in Thailand in autumn? In September, in Bangkok, Pattaya, Koh Chang, Phuket, Krabi and nearby islands, the amount of precipitation increases and the temperature drops slightly. On Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao this month the weather remains the same as in the summer.

In October, it continues throughout Thailand, the amount of precipitation increases sharply on Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, pouring heavy rains. In Bangkok, Pattaya and Koh Chang, there is also no less rainfall. Therefore, October can rightly be considered the most unfavorable month for a holiday in Thailand. The only exception is the north of Thailand, in October it rains much less here, and the temperature is comfortable for relaxing.

In November, the rainy season begins to recede, the air temperature reaches a comfortable level of +25 - +30 degrees Celsius. In Bangkok, Pattaya and Koh Chang, it practically stops raining, you can safely fly on vacation. Rainfall is also decreasing on the Andaman coast, so the resorts of Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi islands are gradually opening the tourist season. On Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, it continues to rain, the rainy season here can last until the end of December.

As you can see, the weather in Thailand is quite different by months and regions. Therefore, this should be taken into account when planning a vacation. Moreover, now you know exactly what the climate is in Thailand and when it is better to fly on vacation.
