Cardiff University(English) Cardiff University, Wall. Prifysgol Caerdydd is a public university founded in 1883. Located in Cardiff, Wales, UK. The university consists of three colleges: a) arts, humanities and social sciences; b) biomedical and biological sciences; c) physical sciences and technology.

It was originally founded as the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire. Cardiff University is second oldest university in Wales. The university is a member of the Russell Group - a group of leading British research universities. The university ranks 143rd in the ranking top universities world according to CQS World University Rankings. The university has the highest student satisfaction rating in the 2013 National Student Survey in Wales.

The university has over 27,000 undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students, making it one of the largest universities in Wales. The university has produced a number of notable alumni, including President of the European Commission Roy Jenkins, Jordanian Prime Minister Faisal Al-Fayez and laureate Nobel Prize Martin Evans.

Story

It was originally opened as the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire on October 24, 1883. Training was conducted in the following specialties: biology, chemistry, English language, French, German, Greek history, Latin, mathematics, astronomy, music, Welsh, logic, philosophy and physics. It was registered by Royal Charter in 1884. The first chancellor of the university was John Viramu Jones at the age of 27. At that time the only degree-granting college in Wales was St Davis University College. In fact, at the first stage of its development, Cardiff College registered students for examinations at the University of London, until in 1893 it became one of the institutions of the University of Wales, and began to award degrees and, accordingly, issue diplomas.

In 1885, a women's dormitory was opened at Aberde Hall, which made it possible to admit women to the university. In 1904, the UK's first female professor, Millicent Mac'Kenzie, was hired. The construction of the main building of the university began in 1905 according to the project of architect W. D. Carow, who sought to combine in his work the charm and elegance of his former project- Trinity College, Cambridge - with a colorful balance of many of Oxford's university colleges. Due to insufficient funding, construction progressed very slowly, the construction of the side parts of the building was completed only in 1960, and the planned Great Hall was never built.

Since its founding in 1883, the university has been located in the Old Infirmary on Newport Road, Cardiff, which is now part of the University's Royal Buildings ensemble. In 1988 Cardiff University College began to merge with the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology (UWIST) to form University College Wales, Cardiff. Sir Aubrey Trotman-Dickenson, who previously served as director of the Institute of Science and Technology at the University of Wales, became the rector of the new institution.

Following changes made in 1996 to the Constitution of the University of Wales, the institution took the name of the University of Wales, Cardiff. In 1999 official name The university was changed to Cardiff University. On 1 August 2004 Cardiff University of Wales merged with the University of Wales Medical College. The amalgamated institute separated from the collegiate University of Wales and formally adopted the name of Cardiff University.

In 2002 there was support for the reunification of Cardiff and the Welsh Medical College. August 1, 2004 happened official association Cardiff University College and the Medical College of Wales, and it was from that moment that Cardiff University ceased to be an institution that is part of the University of Wales, and became an independent "link institute" that is part of federal university. The unification process ended on 1 December 2004 with the Royal Assent of the Act of Parliament. On 17 December the Privy Council agreed to the creation of a new Supplementary Statute which granted Cardiff official university status. From that moment on, the name of the educational institution "Cardiff University" became fully legalized.

An excerpt characterizing Cardiff University

This simple warm dialogue two lonely loving creatures, sunk into my very soul! .. And so I wanted to believe that everything would be fine with them! That an evil fate will bypass them and that their life will be bright and kind!.. But, unfortunately, just like me, they, I knew, would not have... Why did we pay such a price?! Why were our fates so ruthless and cruel?
Before I had time to turn to the North to ask next question, as a new vision immediately appeared, from which I was simply breathtaking ...
In the cool shade of a huge old plane tree, four people were sitting on funny low benches. Two of them were very young and very similar friend on a friend. The third was a gray-haired old man, tall and strong, like a protective rock. On his knees he held a boy who was 8-9 years old at most. And of course, the North did not need to explain to me who these people were ...

I recognized Radomir right away, because there was too much of that wonderful, bright young man in him that I had seen on my first visit to Meteora. He just matured a lot, became more severe and mature. His blue, piercing eyes now looked at the world carefully and harshly, as if saying: “If you don’t believe me, listen to me again, but if you still don’t believe me, leave. Life is too precious to be given away to the unworthy."
He was no longer that “loving”, naive boy who thought that he was able to change any person ... that he was able to change the whole world ... Now Radomir was a Warrior. This was evidenced by his whole appearance - inner composure, an ascetically thin, but very strong body, a stubborn fold at the corners of bright, compressed lips, a piercing gaze of his blue eyes flashing with a steel tint ... Yes, and all the incredible power raging in him, forcing friends to respect him (and enemies to reckon with him!) clearly showed in him a real Warrior, and by no means a helpless and soft-hearted God, whom the hated by him so stubbornly tried to show Christian church. And one more thing... He had an amazing smile, which, apparently, began to appear less and less frequently on his tired face, exhausted by heavy thoughts. But when she appeared - all the world became kinder, warmed by his wonderful, boundless warmth. This warmth filled with happiness all the lonely, deprived souls! .. And it was in it that the real essence Radomira! His true, loving Soul was revealed in him.
Radan (and it was clearly he) looked a little younger and more cheerful (although he was one year older than Radomir). He looked at the world joyfully and fearlessly, as if no misfortune simply could, had no right to touch him. As if any grief should have bypassed him ... He, undoubtedly, has always been the soul of any meeting, illuminating it with his joyful, bright presence, wherever he was. The young man seemed to sparkle with some kind of joyful inner light, which disarmed young and old, forcing them to unconditionally love him and protect him, as the most valuable treasure that comes to please the Earth once in a thousand years. He was smiling and bright, like a summer sun, with a face entwined with soft golden curls, and one wanted to look at him, admire him, forgetting about the cruelty and malice of the world around him ...
The third "participant" of the small meeting was very different from both brothers... Firstly, he was much older and wiser. It seemed that he carried on his shoulders all the unbearable weight of the Earth, somehow managing to live with it and not break, at the same time, preserving in his broad soul kindness and love for the people around him. Next to him, the grown-ups seemed like foolish children who came to the wise Father for advice...

He was very tall and powerful, like a large indestructible fortress, proven by years of hard wars and troubles.... The look of his attentive gray eyes was prickly, but very kind, and the eyes themselves were striking in color - they were incredibly light and bright, which are only in early youth until they are overshadowed by black clouds of bitterness and tears. This mighty, warm man was, of course, Magus John...
The boy, calmly sitting on the mighty knees of the old man, was thinking about something very concentratedly, not paying attention to those around him. Despite his young age, he seemed very intelligent and calm, full of inner strength and light. His face was concentrated and serious, as if the kid at that moment was deciding for himself some very important and difficult task. Just like his father, he was fair-haired and blue-eyed. Only the features of his face were surprisingly soft and gentle, more like his mother, the Holy Mary Magdalene.
The midday air around was dry and hot, like a red-hot oven. The flies, tired from the heat, flocked to the tree, and crawling lazily along its immense trunk, buzzed annoyingly, disturbing the four interlocutors resting in the wide shade of the old plane tree. Under the kind, hospitably spread branches, it blew with pleasant greenery and coolness, the reason for which was a playful narrow stream running briskly right from under the roots of a mighty tree. Bouncing on every pebble and bump, he merrily splashed shiny transparent drops and ran on, pleasantly refreshing the surrounding space. With him next to breathe easily and cleanly. And protected from the midday heat, people rested, absorbing cool, precious moisture with pleasure... There was a smell of earth and herbs. The world seemed calm, kind and safe.

Radomir tried to save the Jews...

– I don’t understand them, Teacher... – Radomir said thoughtfully. – During the day they are soft, in the evening they are affectionate, at night they are predatory and insidious... They are changeable and unpredictable. How can I understand them, tell me! I cannot save the people without understanding them... What should I do, Teacher?
John looked at him very affectionately, as a father looks at his beloved son, and finally in a deep, low voice said:
“You know their speech—try to uncover it if you can.” For speech is the mirror of their soul. This people was once cursed by our Gods, since they came here to the destruction of the Earth... We tried to help them by sending you here. And your Duty is to do everything to change their essence, otherwise they will destroy you... And then all the rest of the living. And not because they are strong, but only because they are deceitful and cunning, and they strike us like a plague.
“They are far from me, Teacher… Even those who are friends. I cannot feel them, I cannot open their cold souls.
“Then why do we need them, papa?” - suddenly joined in the conversation of adults, a small "participant" of the meeting.
- We came to them to save them, Svetodar ... To pull a thorn out of their sick heart.
“But you yourself say they don’t want to.” But is it possible to treat the patient if he himself refuses to do so?
- The Truth speaks through the mouth of a baby, Radomir! exclaimed Radan, who had been listening until now. “Think about it, if they don’t want it themselves, can you force people to change?.. And even more so – a whole people!” They are alien to us in their faith, in the concept of Honor... which, in my opinion, they don't even have. Go away my brother! They will destroy you. They are not worth a day of your Life! Think of the children... of the Magdalene! Think of those who love you!..
Radomir just shook his head sadly, affectionately patting the golden-haired head of his older brother.
– I cannot leave, Radan, I have no such right... Even if I fail to help them, I cannot leave. It will be like running away. I can't betray the Father, I can't betray myself...
You can't force people to change if they don't want to. It will only be a lie. They don't need your help, Radomir. They will not accept your teaching. Think brother...
John sadly watched the argument of his beloved disciples, knowing that both of them were right, and that neither of them would back down, defending their truth... Both of them were young and strong, and they both wanted to live, love, watch how they grow. children, to fight for their happiness, for the peace and security of other worthy people. But fate had its own way. Both of them went to suffering and, perhaps, even to death, all for the same others, but in this case - unworthy, who hated them and their Teaching, shamelessly betraying their people. It looked like a farce, an absurd dream... And John did not want to forgive their father, the wise White Magus, who so easily gave his wonderful, fabulously gifted children for the amusement of mocking Jews, supposedly to save their deceitful, cruel souls.
“I’m getting old… I’m getting old too fast…” John said aloud, forgetting himself.
All three of them stared at him in surprise and immediately burst out laughing ... it was impossible to imagine the “old” one, it was John, with his strength and power, enviable even for them, the young.
The vision is gone. And I so wanted to keep him! .. My soul became empty and lonely. I did not want to part with these courageous people, did not want to return to reality ...
- Show me more, Sever! I pleaded greedily. “They will help me survive. Show me another Magdalene...
– What do you want to see, Isidora?
Sever was patient and gentle, like an older brother seeing off his beloved sister. The only difference was that he accompanied me forever...
“Tell me, Sever, how did it happen that Magdalene had two children, and this was not mentioned anywhere?” There must have been something somewhere?
– Well, of course, it was mentioned, Isidora! And not only was it mentioned ... The best artists once painted pictures depicting Magdalene, proudly waiting for her heir. Only little of it remains, unfortunately. The Church could not allow such a “scandal” because it did not fit into the “history” created by it in any way... But something still remains, apparently due to an oversight or inattention of those in power, Thinking Dark ones...

How could they let this happen? I always thought that the Thinking Dark Ones were smart and careful enough? After all, this could help people see the lies presented to them by the "holy" fathers of the church. Is not it?
– Has anyone thought, Isidora?.. – I shook my head sadly. “You see… People don’t give them too much trouble…”
- Can you show me how she taught, Sever? ..
Like a child, I was in a hurry to ask questions, jumping from topic to topic, wanting to see and learn as much as possible for the time allotted to me, already almost completely expired ...
And then I saw Magdalene again... People were sitting around her. They were different ages- young and old, without exception, long-haired, dressed in simple dark blue clothes. Magdalene was in white, with her hair flowing over her shoulders, covering her with a wonderful golden cloak. The room in which they were all at that moment was reminiscent of the work of a crazy architect who embodied his most amazing dream in a frozen stone ...

As I later found out, the cave is really called - Cathedral (Сathedral) and still exists.
Longrives Caves, Languedoc

It was a cave that looked like a majestic cathedral... which, by a strange whim, for some reason nature had built there. The height of this "cathedral" reached incredible size, being carried away directly "to the sky" by amazing, "weeping" stone icicles, which, somewhere above, merging into a miraculous pattern, again fell down, hovering directly above the heads of those sitting ... There was, naturally, no natural lighting in the cave. Neither did the candles burn, nor did the faint daylight seep through the cracks, as usual. But despite this, a pleasant and uniform golden radiance gently spread throughout the unusual “hall”, coming from nowhere and allowing you to freely communicate and even read ...
The people sitting around the Magdalene were very concentrated and attentively watching the outstretched hands of the Magdalene. Suddenly, between her palms, a bright golden glow began to appear, which, increasingly denser, began to thicken into a huge bluish ball, which hardened before our eyes until it became like ... a planet! ..
“North, what is it?” I whispered in surprise. This is our Earth, isn't it?
But he only smiled in a friendly way, without answering or explaining anything. And I continued to look fascinated at the amazing woman, in whose hands the planets were “born” so simply and easily! .. I had never seen the Earth from the outside, only in the drawings, but for some reason I was absolutely sure that it was she. And at that time, a second planet had already appeared, then another one ... and another ... They circled around Magdalena, as if magical, and she calmly, with a smile, explained something to the audience, seemingly not getting tired at all and not paying attention to surprised faces, as if talking about something ordinary and everyday. I understood - she taught them astronomy! .. For which even in my time they did not “stroke” on the head, and for which it was still just as easy to get straight into the fire ... And Magdalena playfully taught this already then - for a long five hundred years ago!!!
